WARNING: Graphic photos! How sharp is a brand new Izula?

OUCH

Tape Tape Tape TApe Tape TAPe "TAPE TAPE TaPe tApE

Did I mention Tape? :D

Hope you heal fast man!

Sorry to hear this happened. I'm with Dave...I read the many threads where people had cut themselves wrapping the handle, so I just went for the Izula II.
Then I bought some paracord and made myself some braclets and lanyards to experience working with paracord.
Hope you heal up well...keep an eye on it and keep it clean.

Had a buddy cut himself with a dirty old hunting knife recently...got a MRSA infection...they had to amputate his finger. Be careful out there Brothers

Ah this kinda stuff makes me happy, we share this kinda stuff as a step in a good relationship with out blades, much better than the dumbass I took to the ER a couple of months ago because he failed at the simple task of opening up a Coke can. Nice cut man! Good luck on recovery.

Izulas are blood thirsty little buggers. I swear everyone who owns one gets bitten by it. And like everyone else has said, tape is your friend!

Dude, literally, same knife (original izula) wrapping it the same way and it bit me exactly like you describe. Mine was better tho, no stitches, but I had a first aid kit and crazy glue handy at the time.

Those things come damn sharp from the factory.

Feel better dude.

Never having owned an Izula (as of yet), I'm still having trouble visualizing how these things are happening while wrapping the handles, and even more trouble visualizing the cut on both the thumb and index finger, which would seem to be opposite sides of the blade. So I take it, the Izula sheath does not keep a tight grip on the knife?

Edited to add: Looking at the closed wounds, I gotta ask, did they even clean it prior to sewing it up? I mean, I can't really imagine them not, but dang, all that dried blood, and no obvious signs of betadine stains makes me wonder. Was the wound still bleeding much during the closing procedure?

Yes, mix alcohol and pain killers. That is clearly the correct way to go about solving your woes. People win Darwin awards for taking advice like that.

I always wrap the blade of my Izzy with painters tape. Doesn't leave any residue like Duct Tape does. My Izzy bit me, but not while wrapping it.

i just looking at getting one soon, but if u have to be bit to get to know yer knife does not seem like a good road to go down. good luck with the healing, its will feeel better down the road. Also always will hurt when u look back at the picks. I put a small knife into the webbing between my thumb and index in the shape of a L a while back. still feel the pain when i look at the old picks.

When I sliced my fingers open, i was holding the sheath in my right hand and squeezing while i pulled the final knot tight with my left, the sheath has very good retention but i pulled hard enough to pop it out, and reflexivly closed my right hand on it. cut to the bone on my middle finger and pretty deep on my ring finger. I've wrapped a dozen of the things and always wrapped the blade in tape first, this time i was in a rush and skipped it. Now i have no feeling in my middle finger and a permanent bend.

pays to be careful

When I wrapped mine I used my felt and aluminum jaws in the vise! That little bastard wasn't gona get me!! LOL

Damn, thats a super deep cut. Glad to see you got it stitched up. Those Izula's are super sharp.

Same thing happened to me, sliced the index finger...but I reacted when the knife came out of the sheath and tried to push it back in, too late, wound up stabbing my palm just below the thumb.

Butterfly bandages, super glue and cold packs are always in my first aid drawer for such an event....must be common or something

Well, they had me open those suckers up under the sink... burned like hell... The rest of the time I was lying down so I didn't see exactly what they were doing, but I definitely saw them bring in a betadine soaked sponge. It did bleed a bit while he was stitching though because when he was done, there was a pile of bloody gauze on the table.

All I know is so far it looks good. I think I got pretty lucky, considering I didn't hit the bone, didn't cut a tendon, and I still have feeling in both fingers.

Don't worry Murdamook, I only do the booze and painkillers separately!
