Hey all i recently bought a knife off knife center and when i checked my banking to see if the charge had processed,i had found that a charge of $500 was put on my card for contacts where as the knife i bought was only a $100 dollar knife ? ... as you can imagine i was like WTF? so i called up my bank and of course had them put this charge on hold, so now i have my cards all canceled and i have $500 dollars worth of contacts coming to me that i must send back, apparently a hacker might have gained access to the website on march 5th or one of the employees use the card to be a asshole, anyway just thought you all might wanna know, im going to be using blade HQ for a little bit till whatever needs to be resolved is resolved.

That surprises me! I have been buying from them for years and never gotten anything other than top notch customer service, fast shipping and never had a problem with my card security.

I don't understand. Was the $500 charged by Knife center or to another vendor. If it was another vendor, how do you know it was Knife Centers fault. And why would a hacker send the contacts to you?

I'm thinking this will probably end up in Feedback.

A couple of questions:

What do contacts have to do with Knife Center, or why do you think these two transactions are related?

Have you spoken to Knife Center about this issue?

KC has a pretty good reputation around here. It might be a good idea to speak to them before you start a thread that reflects negatively, and contains accusations without facts. Good luck. Please let us know how this works out.

By "contacts" do you mean contact lenses?
If so, unless Knife Ceter sells contact lenses how do you reach the conclusion that this
charge on yor card has anything to dowith Knife Center?

I've spoken with them and im waiting to see if my order even ships tomorrow, i assume there was a issue with there security and yes its was in fact contact lenses, i believe that there website security was temporarily compromised do you think i should call them? if so what should i say ?

Thanks for your warning! Seem like you have fallen for false mirror website designed by hackers to extract card data.....(maybe i am wrong),,,, i ordered few times from knifecenter, never had any trouble with them, but it was years ago.I guess there will be some phishing website operating nowadays,,,which would explain your experience maybe.

im confused because this is like my 10th order from them ! ive never had any other problems

Are you sure it's knifecenter and not someone else? I put in an order with them a few days before you did and haven't had any unusual charges show up.

The knifecenter guys are all good people. They used to be located 20 minutes from me. Even though they didn't have a store front open to the public whenever I ordered from them they would let me come down and not only pick up my order in person but choose which one I wanted and they would show me all the new stuff they had gotten in.
I'm sure whatever has transpired was not done by anyone on their staff.

KC doesn't charge you UNTIL the order ships, so that would explain why you didn't see a $100 charge yet.
What I don't understand, is why you are blaming KC for a fraudulent charge for eye contacts without any evidence.

Doubt it was them, it must have been something else you recently bought within the last 90 days. Eating establishments can be hubs of dishonesty when it comes to copying a credit card number. When it comes to fraud, you should assume nothing. You don't know where the security break was and accusing Knifecenter of it without a shred of evidence can be damaging to them. What makes you think their site was compromised temporarily?

False mirror website? I don't think so. I guess the interwebz is done broke now huh?

Im seriously confused here.... You need to start explaining very clearly especially with you "warning" people of a very respected website.

Guys i just want to make it clear that i have no hate to knife center. i have bought 90% of my knives from them. im 100% positive that it was not a mirror website, what i am getting at is that i think that there security software may have been temporarily breached and that you should be careful in this time of uncertain, if you happen to have a successful order good on you! but just keep your eyes open to make sure your on the official website and that all is good !

here you say you have spoken with them and then you asked if you should call them .??

Would you kindly clear up one thing?

Are you telling us that you have not used this credit card for any purchase other than the Knife center in the past three Months?

In 2013 I bought a piece of Jewelry on E-bay that required I call them with a Credit card. I used a card I had not used yet and activated jut prior to the purchase and used it just that one time. Two months later I bought clothes in London, England ( I was never in London or clothes shopped in London) for $533.00 US.

maybe you were compromised a month or two ago????

Post hoc ergo propter hoc, or "after this therefore because of this" describes the logical fallacy that since event Y followed event X, event Y must have been caused by event X. Like others are saying, you are assuming that because the fraud occurred after you purchased the knife, the fraud must have been caused by the knife purchase. But you haven't articulated any reason for drawing this conclusion. Simply demonstrating that Y followed X is not enough.

Mrs. Powernoodle and I have both had fraudulent transactions on our credit cards, but there is really no way of determining how someone got our data. All you can do is call the credit card company, challenge the charge, and have them issue a new card with a new number.

Its also strange that the contacts are being sent to you instead of someone committing the purported fraud, but that's a separate issue.
