Here are just a few of the pictures of my leg since the piece of shrapnel started moving and causing me problems.

Here it is in the early days of problems.......quite swollen with near 2 liters of "fluids" in a cavity on the back of my thigh.

This drain tube was great for keeping the swelling down while it was in....real fun to clean every night too:thumbup::thumbup:

After I ripped out the tube( I caught the tube on the arm of the couch)....silly me, I thought it was just a tube, but actually the tube was attached to a 4" stint!

Everything seemed like the surgery worked, my leg was retuning to normal.....except for that vampire like pasty white skin of mine:D:D

Then....it started to swell again

That's reasonably gnarly and a very cool post. Glad things are on the mend for you.:thumbup:

While in the emergency room one day, a doctor decided to start to lance my leg, but after he got to the muscle, he decided he didn't want to finish opening my leg and packed it with packing ribbon and sent me home.

He told me to take the ribbon out after a few days.....I have about 10 pictures of the full pulling of all the ribbon, I will get those later.

And like MAGIC!!! I have a hole in my leg!!

Misc20081068.jpg

This new hole began healing, but soon, my thigh was swelling again and like all things....the fluid took the "Path of least resistance" out of my leg when it reached maximum capacity and my leg ruptured. I promise that is not pee:D

I wish I had some more picture right after the surgery, but there is a the gap of time while I was in the hospital, I went in September 13th had surgery on the 15th and the first picture here is on the 19th. These are about 6 days out from surgery back at my house while Home Health Nurse was changing the sponge in my leg. You can see the bottom part of the sponge was stuffed in the track that went towards my knee and the top part still stuffed in my leg.

And a more recent picture after some healing

The actual incision tracks about 2" north and south of the opening and I am not sure how far into my thigh it goes.

WOW!! Thanks for the cool pics!

All sorts of questions come to mind -

What's the next step?
Do you think that'll leave a mark?
Was the Home Health Nurse cute?
Where can I buy some Pirate underwear like that?

Good luck with that, Jason. Keep us updated.

dang bro, I am so sorry to see you going through this. I can't say I know how it is, I've seen friends of mine deal with similar situations. Stay strong, and do what the doctors and nurses tell you(my wife is a nurse she made me add that part) and I'm hoping soon you don't have to deal with this BS any more!

OMG, Jason! I'm glad that at least you are healing up...but you certainly have been through it. I wish you a full recovery and cute home health nurses!

What's the next step?

I am hooked up to a wound vacuum ( another thing that is loads of fun...to have to never be away from a plug for more than a few hours I have to recharge at work:thumbup::thumbup:) When the hole closes enough I will go to a wet/dry bandage and wait for the skin to grow over. But I just have to wait to tell if this solved the problem or not.

Do you think that'll leave a mark?

I hope so!:D I hate to go through this with no evidence...other than the piece of shrapnel. The scar will go great with all the others I have. Who needs needles and ink when they have enough scars for free!:D

Was the Home Health Nurse cute?

If I were living in a Retirement Home...maybe. I couldn't get over the mustache:eek::eek:

Where can I buy some Pirate underwear like that?

My wife told me she got them at Old Navy...I have some socks that match. I will get a picture sporting them just for you:D

Good luck with that, Jason. Keep us updated.

I hope that helps.

Its looking much better now, let the healing begin!

Man! That is disgustingly cool. Thanks for the pictures and the courage to share them. I hope you heal well. Thanks and be well

Thats quite an unpleasant leg you've got there. At what point will they start in with the leeches? Did you attempt to get the surgeon to use an AD or something like that to perform the operations?

I do like the guy in the background of the first pic. His body language says to me "Hey Jason if you want i'll have a go at sorting out your leg, gimme a minute to heat up a real big needle or nail, i'll jam it into your leg to bleed out the gunk then you'll be fine".

dang!!!!
What's it all from? Staph or something? Cedar poisining?

A roadside bomb hit me a few years ago and the shrapnel migrated from my crotch to the back of my thigh where the doc were finally able to get it out without causing "too" much damage to my leg.

The worst part of this is I won't be able to make it to Knob Creek!!!!!:mad:

Now, see, this is what you get with cheap, 3rd world shrapnel. :grumpy:

In my day, we never had these problems with top-quality, Russian shrapnel.

Remember -- chicks dig scars.:D

Wonder what Jerry could make out of that shrapnel? Maybe a bolster?

That is nasty stuff bro! Hope you are doing better now
