Warning very graphic survival pics!!!!!

There is a reason why smart folks post armed guards when camping in polar bear territory. This is that reason. Those are some nasty bears. I refuse to sleep in their territory without anyone awake and watching my back. However much I love animals, I have little desire to personally turn into polar bear excrement. :D

No bears this way - just sharks and crocodiles (and spiders and snakes) and we react to this with over-the top fear & sensationalism - a recent White Pointer fatality made headlines all around the country. The Xmas road toll made p. 3.

Cars kill and mangle more people and people kill and hurt more people than wildlife so we've become inured to it. I think it's the relative rarity of these sort of incidents combined with the image of some toothy predator chewing you up alive that upsets us. We have less trouble dealing with a vicious stabbing or glassing even though the injuries can be just as horrific because these are more commonplace.

It may be a bit like when Shark Week is on tv. Hell, bees, mosquitos and deer (if you count deer/car related accidents) cause the death of staggering numbers of people each year, but each one individually doesn't pose the same kind of terror and immediate threat as a hungry polar bear who hasn't eaten its fair share of seals before wintertime.

Also car death and injury stats are more a result of the amount of time we spend in a car.

Bears never worried me too much, though I’ve never traveled in polar bear country,

…but Sasquatch scares the hell out of me.

Some people call it a myth, some of us know better.

The pics are old, all of them. I recall seeing the bear attack pics a couple of years ago. Nasty as hell!

Looking at that back pic, I'm thinking this guy made out OK, that was before I scrolled down to the foot shot, yikes:eek: Is there any saving that or are we talking amputation? I see a lot of skin grafts as a bare minimum.

I am with you Mike! ;)
Man, that is one rude awakening....good for him.

Polar Bear or shotgun blast...That's gotta sting!
Exactly. I couldn't post the scalp pics. I didn't have them when I started this. This guy was SCALPED!
The ankle was probably another story. Ok that freakin hurt too!

I don't think they saved that foot. Not sure why the pin was in it but.....OUCH!!!

According to the Snopes write-up, the ankle pic is probably not related to the bear attack at all. Instead, it's an apparent gun-shot wound on someone else's ankle.

Also, someone ELSE shot the bear, not the guy pictured.

Interesting details in the Snopes account.

.

According to snopes the man attacked didn't shoot the bear, an American that was with him did.
And the ankle injury came from a shotgun blast and that picture was in circulation before the bear attack.
But, it does show a very bad head injury that was attributed to the polar bear attack.
SORRY DAVE E didn't see your post until after I'd posted, my bad.:o

That's the definition of F@£ing Nails right there.

Did he get to keep keep the kill? I for one would want that bearskin on my wall or even stuffed. I'd even the meat. The money you would save on buying food could go towards the medical bill.

I'm not an orthopedic surgeon, but I see so much bone and soft tissue missing in the ankle pic, that I don't believe there is any way to save that foot.

Even if we had a way of fixing the damage, there appear to be no large blood vessels left, leading to the foot, thus offering no way to supply the tissue with oxygen and prevent it from dying.

MORPHINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to giggle, thought maybe the guy who got shot in the foot with the gauge was trying to run away from the polar bear, and his friend say no no no you dont lol.

Man wait until that guy see's his barber "what happen to your hair"?
