*Warning* Virus Alert ...For those who use Photobucket.

After getting the ctrl-alt-del issue, mine popped up a screen to inform me my access privileges had been blocked, shutting down the machine resulted in the 'loading personal pref...' windows for 1/3s, 'saving personal pref..' until I used the power button (again). By this point it was in a loop and I could do nothing.

It is interesting how it seems to be hitting different person's machines differently.

If you are saying that your Windows profile can't load, resulting in a "log-in, log-out" loop, your solution might be as simple as having someone re-write one or 2 registry keys needed to allow Windows to load your profile settings. This is what happened to me, and the guy at Geeksquad fixed the problem in under 15 minutes right in front of me. Cost? 30 bucks. Unless you got skillz, I'd let an expert take a look at it before trying anything yourself. I was told that the reason the fix was so easy was because I didn't try to 'roll it back' or revert to the last good settings, etc. After the fix, you will still have to remove the one or more Trojan viruses already in your machine.

Skates, I got a screenshot sent to PB (see further up) with the same "luckydomain" summery report including attacking IP address/domain, but missed the advertisement because I clicked on another page number right as the alert popped up. Glad you caught which one...Which one was it? ...And PB support sent a reply already earlier today...

Dear Jaxx,

Thanks this does help.

Sincerely,

Hopefully, our combined info will be enough for them to take action. Nice catch!

Just got nailed with a virus. The only thing I can figure is that I was on photobucket to upload one of my photos right before it happened.

It's bad. So, problem not solved yet? :thumbdn:

Yup it was from photobucket! I got nailed 2 days back. it wouldn't even let me go to safe mode. Had to bring it to the service guy near me for a fix. Norton 360 never even saw coming or RegCure/XoftspySE:grumpy: Once I went to restart, it wiped me out!! Don't use the little X's on those stupid little pop up boxes, use the ctrl-alt-delete keys to get rid of them. I lost a lot of goodies ...still trying to re-group.

very annoyed!

Damn... Sorry to hear, Jules. :( I thought that they were improving, but I guess not so far. I don't suppose that you remember which advertisement that it was?

I hope that you're able to recover everything, man.

Mine was fried several weeks ago. After calling my super duper tech support older brother (who is often a waste of a phone call...), who basically said, "oh well, you are completely screwed" I reinstalled windows. Except for not being able to run DVDs and having all of my bookmarks gone, I am basically back up and running. I am still going to avoid photobucket like its the plague until I stop hearing bad reports, no matter what protection software I am running.

I was going to try and put pictures up this weekend, but being there on pb, I think I'll wait a little while. Until the coast is clear anyway. Thanks guys,

I've been using PB for a long time, but just switched to imageshack because of this virus thing - so far so good. imageshack has changed a bit from what I remember and works well.

I swaped to TinyPic the other day, and last night while there my PC shut down Internet and said it did it because something from that site was trying to attach to my PC??? They are owned by PB. Seems soneone really has it out for them. Or maybe they want us all to pay for an add free account.

I can't figure out Image Shack very well, but I have been uploading then pasting from there without storing on there site. Takes a little longer, and there not stored, but its simple even for me.

Guys... At the risk of jinxing myself, I have not had another successful attack against my computer over there... That's not to say that my AV/firewall hasn't blocked some attempts, but so far I haven't experienced another problem.

Things I've changed and/or updated:

Java (updated)
Adobe Flash/Flash player (updated)
Adobe Acrobat (uninstalled completely)
All Microsoft critical updates with the exception of SP3 (Which they seem to be spoon-feeding to me over time as the service pack is now down to +/-66mb in size.)
IE security settings on high (with a few tweaks as needed to run certain sites.)

Scans run daily after updating:
Malwarebytes
Norton 360
Spybot Search & Destroy

and
Secunia PSI to keep up to date on updated versions and patches to software on my machine.

All come up clean scans.

My sisters computer has a virus,,, can i remove it by restoring it to another date ? what can I use to get rid of viruses adware ?

Update anyone?????

What is the scoop on the Photobucket Apocalypse?????

I have not been on there much lately. I for sure can't afford to loose my photos and work stuff on my computer that is for sure.

I was on there several times when this thread originally came up, figuring it was fixed, but I am gun shy now.

I never saw anything or had any warnings etc.

Also, I run Firefox, maybe that was why.

Fixed?????????

My sympathies go out to those that have experienced problems. I've been to PB's site a few times a day since this all started, and either I'm lucky of my Kaspersky is running hot and normal. Not a single bug, nor a notification by my AV that it has blocked one from getting in. I hope those of you with problems get them worked out as soon as possible, and with the least loss of data.

I don't know enough to answer this, but... my gut says no. A lot of the newer Trojans will just re-write themselves to other areas of the HDD & other programs... Best bet is to get your AV/firewall to locate & quarantine/delete it, or get a tech-savvy "geek" (computer expert) to get rid of it.

I dunno. Best bet is to back that important stuff up. :)

My Secunia PSI alerted me to 3 out of date copies of Flash on my HDD and I discovered that as I was updating this program, the old copies were not getting removed, so I completely uninstalled Flash/Flash Player, deleted the entire folder and then went to Adobe for a fresh updated copy. Now every website that requires Flash causes IE to alert me to allow that site access to the program, but for now I won't give PB access to it. No access, and I'm hoping no more problems (side benefit, no more pop-up ads!)

Someone on this thread reported that they were affected, and running Firefox. This might be because the Trojan was exploiting vulnerabilities in Java and Adobe Flash, also Acrobat (even though PB doesn't use the .pdf reader)... not the internet browser itself. Best bet is to remain cautious and keep your programs updated. I am still using PB, and have not experienced further problems, but I won't say that the problem is fixed yet. Sorry, man!

Thanks for keeping us informed Jaxx! I am not very computer savvy, and I appreciate the info provided by those of you who are.
