I wanted to post an update to share the conclusion of this mishap with anyone who might be interested. I have now received two knives. Neither are what I ordered and originally discussed with Warren Thomas back in October. Actually, they are not even close. I wrote an email saying so but have not received a response. Of course I give up at this point.
It's funny this thread popped back up tonight, I was just looking at the eBay seller (Shao) store and thinking, "damn, there sure are a lot of knives on here from WT".
My point being, he's very obviously producing new blades for his friend Shao to sell on eBay, lots of blades in fact, so why the hell can't he keep up with orders?
While I like the look of some of his designs, the numerous issues with WT over the years are enough to keep me away. Good luck in getting things straightened out.
See, my first thought about all of those knives was "Daaaaaaamn, these are ugly". Some of them literally just look like he took broken shards of material and then just sharpened all the edges, drilled a couple holes in it, and called it done.
Although honestly, I can see why Warren would be more interested in stocking an Ebay store than in filling out direct custom orders. When you have to deal with a customer who has paid you money in order to receive a product done to their unique specifications, that creates the expectation that you're going to produce that unique item, and in a timely fashion. However, when you're just churning out whatever you want, and an Ebay buyer is buying whatever's available, that takes a lot of stress off. "Don't like the design? Move on, and don't buy from me!" Not a lot of requirement to make an item just so, when you're not working to paid-for exacting specifications.
It probably removes a large amount of stress off Warren to just churn out whatever and throw it up where it sells to...well, folks that like those designs.
Send those pieces back and get your money refunded.
May I add, that Warren is a fantastic maker and grinder. This is no excuse for bad behavior either but Warren has had some personal problems also.
Sure, Warren's knives are designed like this on purpose, Jill. You know better.
