Was at dairy queen and...

walked into a friends house and saw that a guy there had a Kershaw JYD in his pocket, I was kind of excited since this isnt a walmart type knife. I said "How you like your junk yard dog?" he said, "no its a Kershaw." I was disappointed at that point. It was the SG2 blade and he had no idea what that was.

LOL yeah my friend thinks Smith&wesson are the pinnacle of knives. I Know some guys who carry BM and another guy that has a Expensive Auto that I cant remember the name of. The handle slides up releasing the blade, its in S30v too...

There are lots of non-knife people carrying fake Striders and Sebies out there.. (they buy easily from places like Deal Extreme and local flea markets).

Had a furniture repair man at my house a couple of weeks ago, he had an old CRKT with a SS handle, nice little knife. He told me he didn't think more expensive knives were really any better than the cheapies. After I let him handle my Gaylean Cross bone Turbulence it was all he kept talking about. Never told him the price be his reaction speaks for its self.

Saw a guy at Home Depot the other day with a spydie clip hanging out his pocket. Asked him what it was and he pulled out a nice SS endura (also a tenacious he used for "hard use"). I had my SERE 2k on me.

Saw a guy with a Strider SMF in front of me at Wally World a few months back, didn't strike up a conversation, just said "Nice Strider" and noticed his smirk as they checked out and left.

Met a guy at work who had a CS Ti-Lite. I got all silly and excited because (even though it's not the most quality knife) it was the one I was carrying at the moment too. So we whipped them out and sized them up. :D He also owned the Ltd. Ed. 10" Ti-Lite. And he didn't know how to pocket-snag (wave) the Ti-Lite open, so I showed him and scored some points with the boss for "connecting with the customer".

Most of the folks I see with a knife either have a Buck or Schrade folding hunter in a leather belt sheath. Sometimes I'll see a Leatherman multitool in a sheath. When it is a pocket clip, it is almost always a no-name piece of junk. I did spot a police officer carrying a Spyderco Police model the other day (duh.) and it seems like LEOs are more likely than most to carry a name brand knife. I was pleased to spot a Benchmade clip peeking out of the pocket of a bank employee the other day. Alas, my HVAC guy carries junk.

Never seen a Strider or Chris Reeve in the real world. Never seen one for sale, either...

Other than Buck 110s, and Gerber or Leatherman tools, all I ever notice are flea market folders.

The best knife I've seen on a stranger was a SOG Flash II. People around me don't carry knives or carry spyderco knockoffs.

When I was still in the military (retired in 1994) it wasn't uncommon to see something really nice semi-frequently. Though there weren't quite the same options or numbers of options as today. But it's pretty rare to see something really nice being carried now that I'm out. Plenty of lower-end name brands (Gerber, CRKT, Buck, Kershaw, etc.) and equal amounts of poor quality imports (usually junk) mostly.

I will admit though that the low-end name brands usually give reasonable service for the average user, particularly when measured against their cost factor.

I am in Idaho where everyone has knives, but I have yet to meet someone with a quality blade. There have been a few that I think might be a good knife and I ask and they whip out a crappy old chinese blade and talk about how great it is... oh well.

I always keep an eye out for pocket clips and sheaths but I've never really seen anything interesting. Sometimes it seems like I'm the only one around that carries knives...how lonely

I'm pretty sure I saw a Delica 3 in a guy's pocket when I was at a restaurant. Then again, I may be mistaken; I only glanced because I feel like a freak staring at people's pockets...

Haven't noticed any people with anything but gas station or flea market knives around me or stuff they can buy at wally world.

You should've said to the guy, "Nice strider you got there". Chances are if he owns a strider he's probably on BF.

I mainly see a lot of CRKT's on campus, generally the under $30 kind.

Me, being a ZT guy pairing it with a Spyderco, usually gets the "Wtf? is Zero Tolerance", and "You spent how much? You're toopid."

That being said, I'm planning to pair my Zt561 (when it is released) with a para 2. So i'll prolly get the "Who is Rick Hinderer?" and the "You spent how much? You're toopid." when that's in my EDC rotation.

My boss carries a Strider, but he received it as a gift from his brother. Apparently his brother makes body armor for the military and got the knife for free, and gifted it to my boss. FWIW, my boss is an ex marine.
