Was at dairy queen and...

Mostly see spydies around So Cal, a huge share of generic folders, and a benchmade or two. On campus today saw a Panda Express worker whip open a SS Cara Cara to cut some stuff, thought that was pretty nice.

Lol I think I might know who that is... tall half white, half mexican guy?

One of the vmware consultants we use showed up with a 90's era molded clip FS Endura. I recognized the black clip from owning spydercos from that same time period. He was reluctant to show it to me even though I clearly knew what he had and was honestly interested.

Where i work there is one other knife guy who owns a couple of nicer knives CRKT, Benchmade, ect but he is self proclaimed out of the knife buying game. Another guy carries an Applegate as his edc but other than that its just me. Most of my family (dad excluded) carry crap.

I saw a guy at the knife store the other day with a Dairy Queen milk shake. Not one of those from Sonic with the whipped creme and cherry.

I've seen a few spydercos before, two natives, an endura (all carried by cops) and one guy lauching his boat has an aqua salt and a salt 1 folder. Usually see a bunch of kershaws though if anything other than CCC knives. A Strider in CT! Very cool stuff.

Always see same cheap blades here in Richmond va. Flea market special Walmart specials etc. The ONLY nice knives I've seen in my area are either mine or my girlfriends uncle. He carries either a smf or sng usually and yes he's a bf member haha.

Other than the folks around me who I've talked into buying decent knives(mostly Kershaws), The best knife I've seen in someone else's pocket is a Cold Steel. :( However, it was well used, kept sharp and the guy loved it. I've learned to spot the clips on those Super Knife knock offs because that's what I see the most of in the pockets of tradesmen.

My one friend carries a cold steel ti lite and a kershaw, my other edcs a spartan, a different one carries either a full serrated Endura or a small BM auto, another carries a polished g10 and s30v leek and another one carries a kershaw leek i bought her for her bday (too bad i'm in the friendzone with that one).

As far as random people I normally see chinese flea market crap, but i have spotted a good amount of kershaws, a benchmade, and some spydercos. Another guy I was talking to about knives had an emerson commander; thats probably the most expensive knife I've seen someone other than myself carry.

The closest thing i see to someone carring a nice or two is if i look in mirror, most people here, even in MT, wouldnt know the dif between a CRK or a CRKT. Sometimes i see my knifemaker friend, Phil Dobson, at the brewery and he always appreciates the knives i am carrying.

Meh, around here everyone has a knife, but most of them are all older case or buck folders. My dad is about the only other guy that I know of that carries a decent knife but. I bought them for him. I'm always on the lookout for pocket clips though. My wife thinks i'm crazy.

I have a few friends that have alot of really nice knives. A few of us from high school(1978) still trade knives every now and then, just like we did in HS. Case, Gerber, Puma and Buck is about all we traded in HS, but now its mainly Customs, CRK, Spyderco, and Case knives we trade/sell to each other.

Last year, one of my Doctors I go to noticed a micarta sebenza I had in my pocket, and asked to see it. He had a UG sebenza. Another Doctor I go to is a huge knife nut, and we talk knives any time I see him. When I showed him my Sage 2 last year he handed me his old beater small regular BG42 sebenza, and asked if I wanted to trade. I told him even though his knife was scratched (as bad as any knife I've ever seen) it was still worth much more than my new Sage2. He said he knew that, but wanted the Sage2. I left it with CRK at Blade for refurbish, and got it back last week.

Every one around here carries a knife. The ones I see the most are Case, Spyderco, Benchmade, Kershaw, and CRKT. I see people buying the really cheap stuff at some flea markets and gun shows, but don't know anyone that carries one.

Its nice to have some one who appreciates a quality knife, Most of my family / friends think im just crazy (im new to the quality knife world) and that i am spending way to much for knives anymore. My dad and one of my fellow pastors at the church understand the joy of a good quality knife though and i always enjoy conversing with them.

I saw a guy using a Sebenza in the food court at the Korean grocery store a while back. I wanted to give the dude a high-five so bad.

Years ago, I was volunteering at a swim meet (my kids swim). I noticed one of my fellow volunteers had a small William Henry clipped to his shirt. I commented "Nice William Henry." He was shocked that I knew it was a WH.

The most I've ever seen were the leather sheaths on the belt for the Buck 110,or maybe a Leatherman.
A few times I've seen Spyderco pocket clips on LEO's & Firefighters.

The reason you don't see ,many high quality knives, is that we here on this forum are maybe a fraction of 1% of the society at large. They in fact, see us as afflicted with an obsession about knives. And of course they are right. But we are the vast, vast, minority. Most people just want a knife to cut something. With that as a simple fact, even a cheap China made 3 dollar special will actually serve them. They don't care about fit and finish, or if the blade holds an edge through x number of car doors or a thousand cuts of hemp rope. If it tears open a UPS box, their happy.

When you are as obsessed about something as much as we here on a knife forum, we tend to loose sight of reality. Out grandfathers got by with what most key board comando's would consider a POS, some little carbon steel traditional slip joint, with no one hand opening, no locks on the blade, no primo action movie placement. Yet they got by with it just happy with it as most of you with the latest and greatest tactical knife of the month.

The fact is, a knife is not rocket science. The ancients did well skinning a mammoth with a sharp piece of flint or obsidian. A car nut thinks anything less than a Porshe or whatever the car magazines are touting as the hottest thing since the model T is needed to run down to the store, while most of the people are happy with the Honda civic or Toyota corolla they are commuting to work in.

Being obsessed with a hobby can make you loose sight of the real world. The fact is, most people go about their life without carrying a knife at all.

Carl.

I have said the same thing more than a few times over the years.

That's the same reason why most of those people would fall over if they ever heard what a Strider or CRK cost, they just don't know any better.

I have always carried pretty good quality knives, even back in the late 70's and 80's.... That's long before BF was around. ;)

I rarely see guys rocking anything but the old BUCK in it's leather sheath. Sad really, being from Ohio which has more high quality knifemakers, by far and away, than any State in the Union. Well I do my part and even gift out some decent knives but it's pretty lame really. I wish all of our knifemakers would re-locate and save me a small fortune in Sales Tax!
