Washington Jack - What's In The Name

To those not aware - how did they expect to be notified? People who were interested & did a minimal amount of research were aware. The websites, phone numbers & email addresses of the dealers is not secret. People who love & collect these knives understandably don't volunteer their "secrets". It's pretty easy for GEC knives- the GEC website details Production in Process. The traditional forums here provide info way in advance if you read regularly. If I was a dealer, I wouldn't be wasting my time or advertising budget on products that are sure to sell out. In fact the dealers go to extra effort to maintain lists of reservers, etc. They don't have to do that. If you want these special order knives, you have to be diligent about finding info on new offerings, and contact the dealer(s) early to get reserved. It seems the popularity of these knives (SFOs) is growing, so it won't get any easier in the short term.

Everyone was aware they were being made. The first post in this thread was dated 9/24, almost a month ago. Sometimes, if the interest is there, it pays to do the homework. The information was easily accessible.
I do not want to do homework, I want to buy a knife. I should have went directly to Charlie, do not pass GO, do not collect $200. My fault, live and learn, but now I know.

Let's discuss the knives guys. Where to get them, who has them, how to get them, how much they cost etc. doesn't belong in this forum. Thanks.

I only knew of CollectorKnives.net doing the pre-orders and by the time I found out, the list were full.

I know some of you will be getting one or two of these soon. Please post pics!! We want to see em!

How did a discussion about bolsters turn into a discussion/moan-fest about where to buy them, why you can't get one, etc? This is supposed to be a forum for non-commercial discussion about knives, not about BUYING knives. It's really getting out of hand, this sort of discussion really doesn't belong here :thumbdn:

I did see it Mark, I also saw the post two posts below it. Come on, we're all grown-ups here, the mods shouldn't have to tell us what's quite clear in the forum guidelines and in regular posting practice. I can understand people being frustrated, but this really isn't the place for it, it spoils the forum.

As the OP, I sure was hoping to be able to post the first "received" picture. I just checked the box. No go, probably be here tomorrow. Im guessing some of you should see them today, so by all means, let the picture show begin.

Looking forward to more pics of these! The bolster profile is very unique, looks very square and blocky (in a good way!). Looking forward to some more angles. From my brief experience with the forum knife so far I'm loving the 77 pattern. Slots right in between the 15 and 78 with a similar overall shape.

If anyone can, do a comparison shot with the 15 & the 78. Both of those are great knives by themselves... just curious as to the exact size.

Lets not get overly dramatic Jack. We all love knives and everything is fine my friend.

How about a couple of examples of its great uncles while we're waiting :D :

Here you go, draggat. The #78's handle is about a quarter inch longer, but the blades are almost the same length.
The #77, with it's square bolster, should be about a tenth of an inch shorter than the #78.

W:eek:W Eric! Those are beautiful examples of the "Old Timer" Schrade. Thanks for sharing.

I just noticed that the bottom one has partially saw-cut bone. I have only seen them in smooth bone, were they originally saw-cut and smoothed out over time?

Thanks,

Mark
