Wasted my money?

motorcycle jackets usually have slide/skid plates sewn into the back. they are reinforced at all the critical locations. that is why they cost so much.

good choice!

fbm's are really nice though!!!

I have a BMW motorcycle. I believe in ATGATT. I also believe you can park that ride, and take a bus, stick your thumb out, whatever it takes.

I ride a Harley and therefore don't know what ATGATT means, but it sure sounds unAmerican to me.

a 7$ machete if properly sharpened will do many of the things that a fbm will do, it just won't feel as good doing them, and won't do them as well.

a 7$ leather jacket cannot compare to a good 400-900$ road jacket, it also will not feel as good and will not do as well at what it's meant to do (protect you). I've owned langlitz and aero leather jackets (though I've never tried canvas... i have owned an armor suite made of kydexy material. I wish I still had it :( ), and their quality was paralleled by busse's. you can't by thicker better leather on the market that I've found, and if I had to be wearing anything in an 80mph skid, I'd want it to be that.

and I'm am much, much more likely to get into a bike crash then I am to be stranded in a jungle. (sd defence is something different altogether, i prefer a fire extinguisher and a crowbar. you can use it like a super huge can of mace, and the crowbar isn't as likely to kill them)

I understand it means "all the gear, all the time". As I joke around, I do believe in wearing the right protective gear. I do not ride in shorts and a T-shirt and sandals. (I have seen others do this and shake my head in disbelief).

One of my dreams is to have the FBM strapped to the front of my bike in it's long leather sheath like one of those rifle holsters used when horseback riding.

Going into full Conan mode. Arggghhhh!!!

That's what AKs are for.

I've bought two bike jackets before ever getting a Busse. I did have two Swamprats beforehand though, so those were decent substitutes.

....are those tassels on the side of the jacket? :)

On the other side of the coin, you could've gotten a cheaper jacket and been covered and still went for the mistress. Jackets are alot easier to find than FBM's, and the prices of jackets don't increase as they become harder to get like INFI.

you must not be familiar with Langlitz Leathers. they've got a wait list that would easily compare to, if not exceed that of the custom shop, and i would have no problem selling mine for quite a bit more than i paid for it. i've been down once with it on (woman driver shifting gears on wet grating) and don't even have a scuff mark to show for it. definitely the INFI of riding gear.

Good to know! I didn't realize it was basicaly a custom. That does change things. I ride quite a bit (understatment :D ) but I've never gone for anything too fancy. Just a heavyweight leather jacket and good boots. No jacket in the hot weather, and with the cold weather here lately (18 degrees in am) I've switched from leather to a heavier lined canvas Carharrt jacket. Cold leather doesn't flex that well. :D

I'm still glad to hear he opted for getting something he needed over something he wanted. I think that is the key to most people's purchases right there. Then again the argument can be made that everyone here always needs more INFI. :p

I was thinking about making that comparison too. I have the Pocket Columbia, and it's definitely nucular tuff.

It's also what you want to be wearing when the zombies attack. There's no way they can bite through a Langlitz.

The "tassles" on the side of the jacket are the leather cinch laces, to tighten it up and stop wind from coming up.

I realized I never said what kind of Jacket it was. it is a Fox Creek Leather Limited edition vented racing jacket, on sale in my "girthy" size for like $200 less than normal price.

My cousin bought an old cafe racer and fixed it up. First time out, he went off an embankment (10 foot drop) into a field at 80 miles an hour. He split three strands of barbed wire with his back and flew through some trees which stopped the bike from running him over. He had a quality leather jacket and helmet on. After he woke up, he walked home. The doctor said the barbed wire would have severed his spine and likely cut off his head without the leather and helmet. He then bought a new Ninja, and after a few weeks hit a deer at 90. He woke up about 100 yards down the road and walked home again........he still has that leather jacket, after cleaning you could not even tell. He has stopped riding street bikes.

Probably a good idea.. :p

yes, he is one of the most accident prone people I know. He has been in like 3 full roll over car accidents (not even him driving), almost fell from the 10th floor of an unfinished building he was working on, fell on his loaded shotgun and knocked out all his front teeth and split his pallet open with and gouged the back of his throat, had his house burn down the night before thanksgiving (at least he got all his kids and wife out), accidentally shot his brand new big screen tv.........and many many more (but he is a handy guy, and seems to enjoy life a lot........just don't let him drive any of your vehicles, or borrow anything breakable)

 You should just start video-taping him and make a movie! You'd be rich

dan,

the one he's got pictured isn't a langlitz, and i don't know that i would call them customs. they're just good, old fashioned leather jackets made out of a small family shop in portland. they've got two basic styles, and stitch them all right on site. if you're ever in the market google their website.

Your making the right decision. Get the Jacket! For a Fox Creek Leather that's a steal and can save your hide!! As a fellow biker I always wear protective equipment when riding. Buy the best you can afford. I always ride with a quality Helmet, Leather or armored mesh jacket and chaps or draggin jeans(kevlar lined). In my profession(LEO) I've seen too many people scraped off the road who would have been way better off if they were wearing the proper gear. A friend of mine asked me how much he should spend on his helmet. I asked him how much he thought his head was worth. When you can afford it get the INFI!! Right now you can't afford not to get the jacket. Ride Safe!

Bulldog18, it is an especially good deal on one in my size 60 long. For some reason if it takes like 3 extra cows to cover you, some one thinks it ought to cost more. I need to get some protective pants too. I crashed on my in line skates in shorts once at about 25 miles an hour and took a monster patch of skin off my left leg, I can't even imagine a 70mph crash on pavement. It would be like sitting your but down on a huge belt sander with 10 grit paper.

I'm an ATGATT adherent as well.

Between the suit, boots, gloves, and helmet, I have spent thousands of dollars on riding gear (have you ever priced a one-piece suit made of kevlar weave and sized for a 6'4" 58" chest?). As a fellow motorcyclist and husband, all I can say is there is no cost that is too high to give your spouse peace of mind. It is a way to indulge your inner shopper and not feel guilty.

Fox Creek makes a very good protective jacket at a reasonable price. They are also pretty good about making stuff for big and tall folks. I own one and it always amazes people who pick it up and feel how heavy the leather is.

ob.busse: I usually have the NARK in my tankbag. It comes in handy if I have to cut some spandex clad poseur out of his safety gear for triage.

Nice Guzzi

I'm ATGATT also. If I hit the pavement for some reason I want the odds in my favor. Some of my friends think I'm nuts to wear full leather year round, but I've seen what the road does to jeans.

my aero leather jacket was actually thicker then my langlitz :D (both were the thickest available type, one in cowhide, the other (aero) in hosehide).
