I just saw listings for fake Umnumzaans and fake Small Classic Sebenzas.

So be warned. Just seeing that it is a small sebenza is no longer a good sign that it is real.

Also, the Umnumzaans in the pictures have Idaho Made stamps, so watch out.

It's getting scary out there.

are you referring to ebay? I can't imagine there're fake zaans??

Yep it's true guys. :barf:

Edit: doesn't look like they have the classic MM Sebenza copied. I just took a quick and didn't see it. I think it's just a small version of their crappy 21 copy.

Yup, those are the ones I saw. Notice the blade finish is kinda coarse, and the clip is a travesty, but not everybody knows what to look for like we do. These are gonna hurt a lot of people.

Hopefully people will stick to trusted sellers and authorized dealers.
And ya you can totally tell by looking closely at the knife. The machining screams cheap.

The blade is off by a lot but it's still going to fool a number of people out there, shame we have to put up with this sh*t.

How can you spot a fake? Can I see side by sides or something?

The hollow grind is not as high on the fake one. The grind on the real one comes a lot closer to the thumb studs.
The upper grinds and swedge look soft and not as sharp or defined as the real one. Looks cheap.
If you look closely it looks like there's a little dimple on the lockbar where the detent ball would go.
Also by looking at the position of the dimple I highly doubt that it has the ceramic ball lock interface.

I can't believe they could copy the Umnumzaans !!!
But pictures always doesn't tell the truth, it shall be in rediculous quality:grumpy:

Are they faking the "born on cards", too? Are these being sold on ebay only, or are they online dealers, (non-authorized CRK dealers)? If they are being found on a variety of online dealers, CRK could have those sites sanctioned, right?

Honestly, I don't think there's cause for panic here. Yes there are "replicas" being made... and sold. And let me preface this with the point that I'm against copying anything, and infringing on the original makers name, efforts, etc. But, let's keep this in perspective... although I've seen a ton on fakes out there, some laughable, some scarily close to the real thing... I've never seen the sellers try and pass a fake off as a real one. They've always been around $100. I think there will always be folks that will buy these (and other fakes... Rolex's, handbags, etc etc) for a number of reasons.. don't have the money for the real thing or whatever. One response is almost universal for those who own the fakes.. that someday they will have a real one, and until then, they pretend. Status, whatever. I don't think it hurts the makers that much, as anyone who will purchase a real product, will still purchase a real one, regardless of fakes being available... So although it's wrong, I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about them... just deal with reputable folks, and be aware. Has anyone heard of someone buying a fake thinking it was real, and paying real money for it?

How did you find these on eBay? If and when I find these, I harass the seller and ebay until they pull it.

You and me both! I had to ask the members here about the small Sebenza I bought a few weeks ago. I am not experienced enough to tell the difference yet.

Yes there was a guy on YouTube who paid 400$ for one if those fake 21's.
I'm sure there are others who have been ripped off who are just too embarrassed to say it happened to them.

I wouldn't be so sure. The fake Ti-lock went so far as to copy the ball bearing and bushing system, and that isn't even a visible part. If they felt like putting a ceramic ball in, there's nothing stopping them. Remember, this is the country that builds your iPhone5 for you. We currently couldn't do that stateside if we wanted to. They can make a copy as exact as they feel is economically profitable.
