Watch pocket carry?

I don't make use of the watch pocket. I have quite a few smaller sized knives I could wear in it but I don't. I'm too paranoid and fear losing it. Only once (this year's grape harvest) I carried my peanut in it and although I didn't lose it, it didn't develop a habit. I find it more comfortable in the "normal" pocket and so far none has bothered me there. Since I got it, I carry John's muskrat every day and with almost 4 inches it's bit big for watch pockets on my pants, they tend to be not so big.

Here's my new 73 in my Costco Urban Star jeans.

I almost never carry a knife in my watch pocket. I almost lost one out of there many years ago, but my main complaint is, that it makes a bit of an unacceptable bulge to go around every time I go to reach into my main pocket. Most of my life, my regular knife pocket is my right front, down in the bottom with a bandana shoved down on top of it. Just works too well for me to change.

Besides, the loose change goes in my watch pocket, with a small stub of a golf pencil.

I don't ever carry a knife in the watch pocket of my jeans. More than half the year I'm wearing shorts with no watch pocket anyways (too hot in AZ for jeans in the summer :D), so I've gotten used to just carrying traditional knives in my right front pocket with my keys and a pen. I have (temporarily) lost a knife or two out of my pocket while wearing shorts, but never jeans. (Also, I agree with Carl that the bulk of anything in the watch pocket is irritating when you go to get into the main pocket.)

I carry a Case Peanut in the watch pocket of my Levi's jeans. It just fits in there. I used to wear Duluth Trading jeans which have a much larger watch pocket. I could carry anything up to about 3 7/8" in that pocket. I have never lost a knife that was carried in that manner, though occasionally one would go through the laundry cycle by mistake. Since I usually carry knives with SS blades and springs, no harm.

Correction - that's Žan's muskrat now. ;)

It all depends on what language you use, the name's basically the same. :p I just cut my fruits with it, it's my EDC now and it's great! And it takes care of this problem too. I don't carry knives in the watch pocket, this one's too big for it anyway, so no big thinking, no complations whatsoever. Drop in and off I go.

Never lost one yet, and I've carried 4 1/4" stockman there. By far the most comfortable though is my A.G. Russell ti lock back, the smallest of the series that does lock and in slip. Only canoe/butterbean example I have :D. Haven't ever lost one from there but I too wear Riggs or Carhartts, and both are decent sized WP's. Depends one which type with the Carhartts, but all the Riggs, especially the cargo pants have that deep wonderful pocket. I could be sod on a waistcoat pretty easy though, I already tend to wear vests for more pockets;) + cargo pants/shorts.
Thanks, Neal

I can lay down a GEC 77 sized knife horizontally in the watch pocket of any of the Lee jeans I own. Seems to be pretty secure, although I wouldn't recommend any amusement park rides where you get all upside-down...I'm way too old for that stuff anyway. The Levis I own don't have anywhere near the same amount of watch pocket space.

I wear Guess jeans, and in 2 out of 3 pairs, the 3.5" frames like #15 and #66 fit without any worry. Even the #77 fits in these without worry.

I've just recently started watch pocket carry and I am pretty sure it's here to stay. My case 087 med jack fits very nicely there but wish it would lay horizontal...so I just today bought a GEC # 14 that I'm betting will be perfect.

As long as the knife can lay flat at the bottom in my watch pocket, I've never had an issue, and it feels very secure. My 83 fits perfectly, and any knife up to about 3.5" is great.

If the knife is too long, and has to sit at an angle, I'll put it in a slip in my main pocket. I did have my Russlock fall out due to this, but fortunately it was on my parent's couch. Either way it was a harmless lesson learned.

If a knife fits well in the watch pocket, you hardly know it's there, it doesn't get scratched and doesn't scratch your phone, etc.

I've heard (maybe in this thread) Duluth Trading have great watch pockets, and I may drop a hint for these as a Christmas gift. Maybe I'll be able to finally EDC my 77.

I did for a while, when I had a knife small enough. You can stick lots of things in that pocket but I only really felt comfortable carrying something that didn't stick out. That way it was "locked" in by the hem at the top of the pocket.

I wear Wrangler 20x 01 jeans, all the pockets are huge, including the watch pocket

Emspop-gotta say wearing the Riggs, my '87 hasn't ever fallen out, fits like they were made for each other. Course the best are bibs, I can carry a case grand daddy Barlow in my winter(insulated) ones.

I may have to check into the Riggs. That's one of the things I miss about working outside in the winter...bibs are the best!

Watch pocket is my dedicated knife carry pocket. Only times I have "lost" my knife from watch pocket is when I got the combination of very loose/big pocket and sleek knife when laying around sofa or floor. Even then I haven't actually lost it, just misplaced momentarily.
