Watch with best illumination?

my luminox is as bright as any watch that needs 'charging' from a light source that i have owned.

i have had it only four years, so it may dim, but it is always lit.

Mine was pretty good too. I wonder if the tracer is as good.

MB-Microtec is the manufacturer of Traser watches. I'm not 100% on the specifics, but at least part of Luminox and S&W's watches are made in the same place. All of the actual tritium vials are made in the same place, regardless of brand.

What I meant by the brightness difference is that on watches like the Sieko dive watches, they'll be very bright when freshly charged, but the best "GID" lume will only last a few hours at best, and lesser lumes won't last beyond half an hour or even less. That's why I like tritium, because even though it might not be the brightest initially, it'll outlast anything else (years vs hours).

All three of my Citizen Promaster watches and my Seiko Orange Monster, if their lume is charged, will DESTROY any of my tritium watches when placed in darkness. I'd say it would take about 15 minutes before the tritium watches start looking brighter. Let me try taking some pictures.

then ill avoid the seikos. i dont want it attacking any of my other watches. :D

Here's my Ball watch:

And here it is nestled in between two watches I charged for about 30secs:

A Ball Fireman is pretty reasonable, and comes in several sizes and dial colors, though it doesn't have as many Tritium tubes...

I see a lot of movies. I have a habit of checking my watch to see where I am in the movie timeline (knowing beforehand how long the movie is) or sometimes it's "Oh, god, how long will this go on!"

But I, stupidly, sold my Luminox thinking my other watches would do.

Nope. Not my Pulsars, Seiko automatics, steel Swatch. Not my Casio G-shock that lights when I tip it toward my face - not bright enough for me.

So, before I buy another Luminox for $130-$150, what else has good lumination for around that price or less.

I also like watches, so I won't be happy wearing crappy watch with good lumination.;)

Have your eyes checked or buy a cheap LED flashlight. While this is a cool way to bring up watches, you are trying to justify watch choice based on a fraction of a % of actual use. How much time do you really spend in a theater? If a G shock is to dull change the battery, which is the only reason I have even had one not be bright enough. For years mine was bright enough to use as a lamp at night to open locks and whatnot.

I' m surprised that you find the Casio G- Shocks not bright enough for you. Perhaps it is the model that does not have a large enough display screen. The full electro backlit on my DW- 7100 Vibration alrarm model with large screen really makes the black digits stand out- at least for me it does. My Luminox and Marathon models (all with tritium tube vials) are all bright enough for me as well. More so once your eyes get themselves adjusted to the dark. Many of the applied luminescence on the Seiko divers, Omega SMPs, Citizen Eco Zillas, etc. are all quite bright when they get their first burst of light shined onto them. But they will all fade quite a bit after a few short hours. Still, a few hours down the line, their lume is still adequate.

Fulloflead:

I'm really thinking about getting a G-Shock or Casio Pathfinder at some point, and a lot of the ones that I like have that (annoying to me) feature of tilt illumination. How well does it work? Do you get a lot of "false alarms"? Thanks!

As far as I know all watches with tilt illumination have a way to turn that feature off (and they all time out to the off setting after a few hours with it on).

I have a G-shock with tild illum, but there just isn't enough contrast on the face and hands. It does have lots of false alarms. I was recently in a theatre with my hands behind my head and realized it was flashing the rest of the theatre behind me. My girlfriend says it flashes at night a lot. This causes the battery to run down faster than other solar watches. The solar battery doesn't last NEARLY as long as my Pulsar solars.

Sombody just sent me a SUG to check out. So far, I think I like it.
