This has been my only negative experience on BladeForums. We agreed to terms via Email, and I sent him my Strider SNG on the same day he reported to me to have sent the Strider SMF. He told me that he used USPS, and provided me with a receipt number, but stated that he had left the delivery confirmation receipt in his truck, and would get it to me ASAP. I've attempted contact with him several times via Email over the past few days, but he has refused to answer. I haven't received the SMF, and another forum member (the knife kid19) has replied on the original trade thread stating that Watchman04 had made a deal with him for the knife too. I checked the DC# that I provided to him, and it shows that he received the SNG on Friday, 01/25/2013. As of today, still no word from him or any sign of the knife.

The name he gave me was Anthony Gomez. And he gave me an address in Austin Texas (which I will be happy to make public if he doesn't do something to make this right). This is the first time something like this has happened, and I should've known better than to trade with someone who doesn't have ANY feedback, but I thought I would make you all aware of it in case you run across him.

"He promised it to me too, the knife kid19....... I sent him my Strider SNG and never got the SMF in return. He received the SNG on Jan. 25, according to the tracking number, and as of today he has never sent me a delivery confirmation number, nor the SMF. Now he won't return my emails. He is completely dishonest."

He should have sent you the DC # the day he shipped it, and could at least reply to your emails.

Hopefully he has a good reason, and will come here and let you know whats going on.

edit- just looked at the link. He just signed up this month, and those two post is all he has had. With someone this new its best if you get them to ship first. But, I'm sure you're wishing you had done that now. Good luck, but it doesn't sound good.

Yeah the exact same thing on this end too. I say just give out the address but he stated to me in an email that he moved so idk how useful that would be.

Well this really sucks. Lucky for me income tax time is right around the corner and my birthday is next month. Still pissed though and I want my microtech back.

Here is the address, just in case he tries to create another user name and scam more people on trades:

1714 Wagon Gap Trail
Houston TX 77090

Nobody ship to that address!

This does not look good. But we are still within the same month. We have one of the Exchange forum mods aware of this too. Too soon for panic time; lets see if we can establish communication.

Edit to add: Checking his profile and my control panel data, he does not look like a bad guy. We rarely see so much information on scammers. He is supposed to be in the middle of a move to Manvel TX. Lets see if that messed up his end of the trades.

I noticed that too but unless he's got two different SMFs we just got scammed :/

This seems to happen enough to make me wonder if Spark should require Basic memberships for people to post a WTT thread.

$400+ knife for a $10 membership...I don't think that will change anything. Feedback/ship first policy change would do more, I believe. We've all been there, first deal etc...I feel it boils down to morals/scruples/integrity.

The reason for the paid membership suggestion is it gives a little trackability. Not perfect, but better than just creating an account and posting away.

A gree with the ship first part, I've asked for it a few times, and have walked away if the newbie refuses. OTOH, I make sure I give them a fedback once the deal is good.

Brand new member with 2 posts and no feedback? I think I would have asked him to ship first on a 400.00 trade. Hope this is all worked out. His profile is a little odd IMO,he says he is a Police Officer and is talking about moving in his profile. Maybe to gain trust?

It has gotten to the point where someone with less than six months and a bunch of posts will need to ship first and then wait until their knife arrives, is inspected and all is good to go before a longer term member will even deal with this "kind" of member.

Didn't someone get burned recently from a guy who claimed he was a LEO in the Austin area? I think his user name was sidewindr or something close. I wonder if this POS struck again???

I know, I know, members of BFC with hundreds and hundreds of posts and several years on can still scam someone out of a knife but the odds are far less than the person who joins, has two posts in the exchange and disappears after scoring two Striders.

I have always been a trusting knifeknut, usually shipping my end of a deal immediately and in all my dealings here have yet to be burned. BUT, it appears that more and more members here are becoming victims and I am truly contemplating whether I should continue believing almost everyone here is honest!!

My first deal here was a trade and I was asked to ship and provide the tracking info first, I expected to have to wait until my end of the trade arrived before I would see anything sent back and that would have been understandable but the gentleman I dealt with shipped after he got the tracking number with no delay. It is really too bad you have to protect yourself from fraudulent persons but I expected to be treated with caution until I built up my rating.

That's exactly this guy's MO. I bet it's the same guy with a new account name. Well.... I've learned my lesson. New guys ship first.

It seems to me that over the past year there have been a lot of thefts in the trading area of the forums. I just feel so bad for the people who loose out . High value knives are hard to come by for a guy like me these days and I would be very upset if some guy just ripped me off. I know that there are many trades done with no problem but I feel that is a good place (trading) to loose a nice blade.

Does anyone else feel the same way ? I just hope this is just a misunderstanding and you guys get your knives back or your end of the trade comes through.

I've been avoiding exchanging knives due to this kind of thing. Once in a million, but I've never been sure if it was worth the risk. I might start soon, but I'll probably find someone with a lot of good rep and history, and then ship first to them. Also, I was wondering if it's possible to use some sort of mediator in these trades. Have both parties send to a trustworthy third party, and once he gets both of those knives, then he sends them out again on their way. It would cost a bit more for shipping and possibly payment to the mediator, but for a $400 knife, $10 for this sort of insurance might be worth it.

Easy enough to do. Box it up and address it to the buyer or trader with postage and then, wrap it in heavy paper and address it to the intermediary with postage to him.

Who wants to be the intermediary, and for how many people? It should not be a BF moderator, which would make it too much like a BF service.

this sucks! getting taken for any amount of money sucks big time! ive been there brother and i hope things get right for you!!

i hate people have to scam, why cant people just have some honesty and morals! it makes newbies like me look bad.

also, i think the mediator idea is a good idea

Even then, the intermediary would want to open and inspect each knife. We had an incident in here where someone bought or traded for an expensive knife, and got cheap Chinese in the box. I'd sure hate to be the intermediary and find out I passed a fake.
