Watermarking the HI images

Yep. Yangdu gave her blessing - let's get it up and running by the weekend.

I'll have a wide space of time on friday to get through this. Thursday is already pretty full. I'm hoping to put up some samples tonight, reach a consensus of sorts for thursday, and then power through it friday.

Thanks Kazeryu!! THis is like my dream job--suggest ideas and other people follow through with the actual work;) :D

Ok - sounds good to me. I'll be full Thursday too.....:D  :p

Here they are, previews of watermarks...

for some reason, imageshack won't let me thumbnail these two:

The Berk, done both in ghost and decal mode.

And my personal 'next buy', the pen knife, also done in both styles for comparison's sake.

Yangdu, if you have a preference, please email me and let me know - kazeryu at gmail dot. com.

Otherwise I will go with whatever seems most popular. I'm voting for the decal-style.

edit: I'll start getting the website pictues done on friday.

Image 14 replicates the little white labels that the Kamis write on finished work. I like it, perhaps they will too?

email sent on pineapple.

(any pineapple that can damage an HI kukhri is a must-have)

p.s. - would preferr the no. 14 typeface faded or embossed across the blade, no little kukh ghost

Here is one using the Samarkan font(#14) ghost-style:

After actually doing up some of these, I've warmed up to the ghost style a bit. The amount of work to do the two is about the same, so need to worry on that account.

Please feel free to share you opinions on what looks best or how things could be refined. I think these sorts of decisions are best done as a community effort -- with a final authority for the ultimate decision (Yangdu). I'll try to post more samples as I am able, to keep discussion going, but remember that I'm aiming to have things ready to go by friday afternoon.

Have at it!

I like this the best. It doesn't interfere with the picture, and is difficult to remove.

Ghost over the image instead of in the clear alnogside is much better. It'd take much more work to delete it.

Looking forward to seeing them done this way.

Will this be done for all images, including the DOTD shots or just the website ones?

Will *we* have to do such work on pics we post in threads?

The plan is just to do the website. I don't think it's worth doing DOTD pics, but if they're sent to me early I can certainly do them up too.

I think it's a bit much to expect all the forumites to be able to do it. ;)

The website is the main concern.

Can you post a link to the file so we can use it on our photos that we post on this forum???
I have no problem with Yangdu using any images I post but don't want any other companies stealing the images we post.

ALBPM - I can do that, no problem. The issue is in how you guys are going to combine your picture with 'standard issue' watermark. I'll check and see if mspaint is up to the job. If it can be done with a trashy program like that, I'll post a little 'how-to' for all the curious folks.

I know lots of people don't have the time or inclination to become 'computer-skilled', so I want to keep things real simple if you guys want to watermark your own khuk pics.

I use Photshop so if the water mark has a transparent background it will be a piece of cake.

All right, after a quick test, it is as I suspected: mspaint does not handle alpha channels correctly. (translation: It won't do transparent things properly)

To anyone with Photoshop/Paint Shop Pro: I will post a how-to thread along with sample transparent anti-aliased files you can use, although if we go with ghost style it will be simpler to make your own. ;) Look for this how-to thread in the next day or two.

Dan, email sent with 99 images from the site all done up. Let me know if you get it all in one piece.

The how-to thread for watermarking your own stuff will go up tomorrow-ish.
(I'm a bit bushed out now.)

Great work, Kazeryu.

Very nice of you to go to the trouble, and beautiful work.
