wave feature - like or dislike?

again, WHY are all the EKI's NOT waved???? in mean, what would it cost, maybe $1 or so?? i would like to ask ernie that 'q, i simply dont understand.........

Ok, here is my first post, and it's going to be the story of my only Emerson, and my edc, a Mini CQC-7B BTS...a great little knife.

I am a building manager of a large recreational center in suburban Ohio. One day while making a round through a vending area, a middle-school kid I knew ran up to me and told me that his friend stuck his quarter in the door stop (the dougnut kind on the wall that stops the door handle) and that he needed to get it out to call his mom. I walked over and unsuccessfully tried to remove the quarter with my fingers. I quickly removed my CQC-7 from my right rear pocket (where I carry it) "waving" it open as I removed it. I dislodged the quarter and turned to hand it to the kid. As I looked over to hand the kid his quarter, he and his friends' eyes were wide open as if they saw a ghost. One asked "uh, uh, is that your knife?"
Another said, "Why do you carry a switchblade?"

By this time, I already had already returned my little friend to its spot in my rear pocket. I handed the kid his quarter, looked at his one friend, and said, "Yes, I carry it every day, and to answer your question, no. it's not a switchblade."

I walked away with a little smurk on my face. Mr. Emerson, I hope you have the same smurk on your face for developing such a wonderful product.

Oh, and I love my wave feature. Hope to add a second EKI knife in the next couple of weeks, probably a Commander.

You will never regret buying a Commander. It has ben my EDC for going on 6 years. Never let me down once.

Well,
I just bought a Commander about 5 minutes ago. I am extremely happy with my purchase, but I think that I won't have it for long. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to send it to a buddy as a present for Boot Camp graduation. Oh well, he will probably need it more than me.

I live in the Strongsville area...you should visit our recreation center. I'm pretty sure it's still the largest public facility in the state.

Having been a knife user and collector since my pre-teen years, I have never found a knife quicker to open or more comfortable to use than my Emerson SARK. The Wave Feature makes it faster than any Auto. I just purchased a new Mini-Commander with the Wave and I am anxiuosly awaiting it's arrival via UPS...

The WAVE IS the bomb. I am a member of a tactical team and on most operations a long gun is occupying one of my hands....this is where my Commander (non Serrated) performs flawlessly. This particular knife has seen some hard use, and I have been carrying it EVERY day for the past few years ( I got one on inception) and have never had a problem with it, other than those few heart pounding moments that I thought I lost the thing when I put it down or something.

My hat is off to Mr. Emerson

I think the wave is the way foward for emerson, it makes my auto knives seem a bit silly, iv got two wave models and play with them every day !

I have two waved Commanders. One of them I have owned for about 3 years. The wave concept is really great. However, there are a few reasons why it do not carry it, clipped in my pocket very often:

A) I find it a bit awkward for everyday carry since sometimes I want to pull a clipped knife out, without it opening. I find the Commander to be a bit difficult to pull out without it opening at least partially. I am not an overly "socially correct" person, but if a officer does stop you, and wants to see your knife, be very certain that the waved blade does not open as you pull it out. Many areas of the country look at this as illegal. As far as I can tell, in MA, any system that opens a knife, as it is withdrawn, is illegal.

B) I have torn up a few too many pocket seams using the wave.

C) The other downside of the wave feature is that it can rapidly wear out your liner lock. The liner locks on the Commanders are quite thin, and the rapid fire opening from the wave will hasten the wear very quickly. One Commander I had to send back for "rebuilding" after about 4 months.

Therefore, the only time I now carry a Commander is in the Emerson quick deployment sheath. The kydex sheath keeps the knife handy, in place and very easy to open using the wave, or to pull out without any opening. I like having a choice.

I also have quality issues with Emersons production knives, but that is not part of this thread. I do like the knives overall. Just make sure to hunt around for a low, reasonable price. You can find new Commanders for about $140.00.

i hate the damn thing....i just grounded the wave off of two brand new CQC7's that i just ordered....

You are an as*hole. (and a Troll). You could have bought CQC7's without the wave, and saved some money. But I don't think you are that smart.

so you automaticly assume i did it just to do it? maybe there was a problem beyond my control which led me to do that. instead of asking me what the problem was, you decide to insult me. i like that.

Why do you hate it?

see, i like you. you asked me why i don't like it, and didn't insult me or anything. i don't like it because i'm used to the classic style, with just using the thumb screw to open my knife. i find when i carry my knife on my pocket, the wave gets caught in the fabric of my pocket, and won't let me remove my knife. by the time i work it loose, the blade is half open, and poking me in the hand.

well, to each his own...
To solve that problem in my case, I just pull the knife forward and up, instead of back and up, all while letting my thumb fillow down the blade to see if the blade opens, The blade never opens for me, and I pull out a closed knife without event.

Sorry it didn't work for you, best of luck with your knives.
