I'm really thinking of picking one up as soon as i can, but there aren't any around here for me to try out.

If you have one, pics of your rig along with any input you might have would be great :)

Haven't had a chance to handle one yet. Did just get a KSG though and if the quality of that is any indication as to how Keltec is making guns I see many more of there products in my collection. It really is an awesome piece of equipment.

hey garth, wanna trade that KSG for a TGLB? ;)

i'm seriously trying to figure out what i am willing to let go of for the RFB... i am a bullpup fanatic, and .308 is my favorite round.

I've been looking at them for a few years now but actually finding a gunshop with one so i can handle it first is hard. It's everything i want in a rifle: lightwight, .308, bullpup, 18" barrel, USA made, uses reletivly cheap metric FAL mags. The only thing im not sold on in the forward ejection. It may fuction just fine, but i dont like the idea of removing the magazine and flipping the gun upside down just to check the chamber. That being said, I still hope to pick one up sometime in the next year or so.

I picked up the first one my gunshop got in a while back. It is a great gun. Runs really well suppressed. It eats up any surplus you can feed it.

I'm no firearms expert or anything, but based on what I've learned from a friend, you might want to pass on Kel-Tec firearms for now...or at least wear some really good head & eye protection.

Without getting into that issue on this thread or mentioning names, some here may remember who & what I'm referring to.

Yes, I remember ... guy was lucky to keep his sight ... blessing of proper shooting glasses ...

That was one of their pistols ... not a rifle ... but all the same ... it does make you wonder what happened ...

The thing is though that not many makers do a semi auto bullpup .308 ... so if you really like it there is'nt an alternative option to consider AFAIK ...

I hate to jump on the bandwagon, but I don't see the appeal of putting a 60,000 PSI explosion right next to your face.

i've owned a good half dozen bullpups. I don't have any concerns about the platform in general. I don't like the socom. Had one, sold it.

Saying it simply ... if you can try one and it works reliably when you do ... then problem solved. Kel Tec seem to be a small expanding business whose expansion may be going quicker than their quality control can monitor ? But if you get a good one ... you're good to go ...

On that basis I would look to the scond hand market where the trip to see the rifle and put a few rounds down can be negotiated ... naturally distance needs to be sensible ...
but second hand you at least know the rifle ought to have had enough rounds down it to be sure it has'nt got defective parts which could cause a catastrophic failure.

I do have, and have fired my RFB repeatedly.
I also have and fired 3 other Kel Tecs.
Even though I did read the thread about the accident with the Kel Tec pistol, you have to realize their are many other reasons for this type of failure to happen.
Kel Tec has always been name a " cheaper" gun manufacturer, but you just have to own one.
My first Kel Tec was their 22 magnum pistol. A caliber not too often made or successful in an auto loader.
Mine functions perfectly with, and I will repeat, with the suggested ammo. Even with a full 30 round clip.
My second was their 9mm carbine that utilized Glock mags. It fires very well.
My next were the RFB & KSG. These 2 firearms exceeded my expectations completely.
As far as hoping to get a "good one" ---that phrase is nonsense.
My opinion with their quality control, it is getting much better as they expand. This is not guessing. I own older and newer and it is fact.

Was the problem with the pistol a double charge with factory ammo ?

If people who own them vouch for them ... that is a good sign ...

But as to whether "getting a good one" is nonesense ... the OP can simply google "problems with keltec" as I did and see how many hits there are for a cross section of their products ... not just the 9mm pistol ... and make their own mind up.

That is a very good consideration that is very hard to prove on our end.
If the left overs of the accident should have been sent in for failure analalsis, which I am sure if Kel Tec is involved, it will be.

I have to agree with Roenman. I have the same three Keltec products and have put a lot of rounds through them without any problems. I always believe you hear a lot more negative then positive reviews with the internet. This is not to say that Keltec hasn't had any problems which happens with any gun company.

In my experience most gun "blow ups" seem to always lead back to handloads. I know bad factory ammo gets out but seems to be less common.

Here is some more gun porn:

No love for a good ole AR-15? :D :p

not really. I've owned about a dozen AR's of every flavor from colt to stag and i can honestly say that i find the balance on the bullpups that i've owned to be overwhelmingly superior.

Especially for .308's, the weight and balance in an AR platform is just not my bag

Kel Tec sucks. But they tried to kill me, so I might be biased. That POS that blew up on me had nothing to do with ammo, which I addressed in the original thread. I am sure some of you love em, but I got rid of all mine.
