I just got home from spending a day in the hospital with my second kidney stone. :grumpy:
It is 6mm and I havent passed it yet, this should be an interesting night. It dropped into my bladder and they said I could come home to pass it. This one is about twice the size of my last one, so I imagine this will be loads of fun to expel.:eek::eek::eek::eek:

So who else has suffered from the dreaded kidney stone?

I know this is way of topic, but I blame Al Gore and the assorted painkillers they have me on.

I'm in the club with you.

My wife told me that is the way childbirth feels.

If that were true, women would never intentionally elect to get pregnant.

What causes kidney stones?
Kidney stones form when a change occurs in the normal balance of water, salts, minerals, and other things found in urine. The most common cause of kidney stones is not drinking enough water. Try to drink enough water to keep your urine clear (about 8 to 10 glasses of water a day). Some people are more likely to get kidney stones because of a medical condition or family history.

Kidney stones may also be an inherited disease. If other people in your family have had them, you may have them too

Hope you heal up quick

sorry to hear that chuddy...may it pass with relative ease. and thanks for the sheath btw..its great

Chuddy--As a nurse I know what you're going through isn't any fun! :barf: Anyway, I wish you well and pray for your speedy recovery!!

A girl needs a knife...

Friend of mine went through that a couple of years ago. Atkins diet and not enough water. Hang in there and put a few more splashes of water in your JWB. You'll be right as rain in no time!

Chuddy,
Had my first kidney stone last month and it was an eye opening experience to say the least as you well know. Doc told me to expect more, but you never know when. He gave me a script for Vicodin. It sure came on real quick. From nothing to max pain in a few minutes. ER nurse asked for a urine sample and when I went in the cup out came the stone. I was lucky! Doc said to stay home next time and take the Vicodin unless I can't pass it for a day then go to the emergency room. Good luck passing it ...

I have seen a grown man in a full-out cry over the pain caused by a kidney stone. :( Not fun. May it pass quickly.

Bro, I'm unfortunately "in the club" too...

OUCH, OUCH, OUCH! I really thought I was tough before kidney stones, now I understand how crippling pain can be --- makes you very empathetic toward those with chronic pain. I've never felt anything even HALF as painful in my life, it just hurts. Like Whitley, I've got the prescriptions filled and on hold, and I'm not afraid to use them.

6mm is a doozy, but at leats it's down in the bladder now. It's going to feel SO GOOD when it's OVER!

6 MM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a decent sized BULLET!!! I had kidney stones as a kid, thought I had a devil in my... well you know. Any ways, best of luck man, I can't imagine 6mm being passable... I think you should set up a video camera in your bathroom, you could probably get alot of money from some man hater for something like that! Seriously!

Joined the club march of 2006, six days of pain. Am much more educated on the modern wonder drugs for pain relief:thumbup:

Feel for you Chuck, hope it passes quickly and easily. Take it slow and keep the meds within reach.

Dilution is the Solution to Pollution. As the cliche goes, drink a lot of water. And if they're Calcium stones, by for the most common, you can take a magnesium supplement (without calcium) in the morning, every morning.

Dr. Michael Murray has a great chapter on kidney stones in his book. It works really well.
Here's an excerpt on Magnesium from his website:

"Magnesium increases the solubility of calcium in the urine. Supplementing magnesium to the diet has demonstrated significant effect in preventing recurrences of kidney stones. However, when used in conjunction with vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) an even greater effect is noted."

It hurts just to read that. Two years ago, I had my last stone. I emptied the medicine cabinet of every pain killer I had, and chased it with some Jack and Coke. Worked for me, but it each his own. May it pass quickly.

Chuck--sorry about the stone. I can't say I'm in the club, but I've heard they're vicious. The closest I've come is a 10mm anal fissure:eek:.
I hope your ganzaaa score offsets the pain some.
But I must concur with Porkus and Skunk....Pics and Audio, please!!

I woke up one morning at 3:00am - it felt like someone had hit me in the lower back with a baseball bat. Went to the emergency room (I had no idea what was going on). As I hobbled up to the desk, the nurse took one look at me, asked where the pain was and said " you've got a kidney stone!!" I am not sure, but I swear I detected a note of glee in her voice as she informed me that this was as close as a man could come to childbirth. Took the cup and strainer into the bathroom and came out with one that could have passed for a cockleburr - the doctor said I was very lucky it didn't get locked up in the system. I have been religiously drinking water ever since. We had a big concrete pour that day and I had gotten dehydrated - the doctor said that rehydrating is probably what kicked it through the system so quickly. It (the stone) created quite a commotion at the nurses station.

I've passed eight kidney stones in the past year and a half; 6 of them I passed with just advil and water, but two of them I had to have special procedures done (stent placement and lithotrypsy). This last one was 8mm and was the most painful ever! Because I have passed so many it made it all of the way to the bladder but would not drop in. Once it's in your bladder you really don't have as much to worry about as most of the time it will cause no pain or very little irritation to the urethra.

What kills you is when it is going through the ureter; also makes it a lot worse if you get pyelonephritis from stasis of the urine.

There are many reasons why you get kidney stones and it depends on the make-up of the stone that you have. Unfortunately for me they have not been able to find why I am making them so quickly as all of my tests always come back normal. Usually they can be prevented with a diet change or with correction of a hormone imbalance (the majority anyways).

While I was doing my Infantry Trades course my Warrant Officer started to feel his kidney stone during a 13k ruck march and fell to the ground screaming like he had his leg blown off. To put this in perspective, the man is 56 years old, has been on more tours of duty than I want to know about, and is tough as INFI. Example: I had the same guy on my basic training, and while we were on yet another 13k ruck march, he fell into a ravine and broke his ankle 8k in the the march. He got up, and kept running, called us all pussies for stopping to see if he was ok, and finished the march ahead of half of us.
