I'm sure most of us here rarely cut ourselves when using a knife, but we all know someone who seems to cut themselves drastically more often.

For me it's my dad, he seems to cut himself just about every week.
Sure it's usually just a minor cut but he still cuts himself way too often.
I'm sure glad he never taught me knife safety, he just handed it to me and said don't cut yourself and that was it
I guess common sense and caution just comes naturally to me :D

The “little things” make a big difference in minimizing the chances of hurting yourself. Close two-handed, don’t open your folder on top of your foot, look at the knife as you resheathe it, eat your pride and use a cutting board, etc.

Sadly, none of my real life friends are knife people. It’s really just you guys harthart.

My wife is no good with knives. I do the serious kitchen cutting for her so she doesn't get the shop teacher look.

My sister in law can't be trusted with sharp implements. I watched her pushing a knife point straight at her thumb and I didn't say a word. She gets downright hostile if someone suggests that she is doing something dangerous. My brother just keeps his mouth shut and takes her to the ER about twice a year. I just stay out of her way.

My dad invariably cuts himself if he uses one of my knives. It baffles me, because he built houses for 30 years so he was always using saws, carpentry tools, utility knives, etc. Plus he knows that I keep my knives sharp, yet he's always surprised and apparently careless enough that he still cuts himself with them.

perfect gift for all these people - and fairly inexpensive at around $20-30 - perfect fathers day gift

In 30+ years of carrying of knife, I really haven't cut myself that much. Most of friends of carry knives don't seem to cut themselves often either.

I am quite famous for walking around half asleep and stubbing my toes on furniture and other objects tho.

Other than the occasional bite/nick, I haven't much cut myself with my carry knives.

It is in the kitchen where I have had my mishaps, and I've had a few. Once the ER doctor stitching my finger the day after I cut myself and was unable to mend it myself overnight noted "I see you have a pocket scalpel as well" referring to the folder in my pocket.

I am not comfortable with kitchen knife skills at all, I've yet to cut myself in the kitchen though because I go slow as an old lady driving 35mph on the freeway.

I was breaking down some boxes at work once and went to scratch my eyebrow with the hand that was holding my knife and I stabbed myself in the forehead. It wasn't hard enough to do any real damage except to my ego, but that's probably the dumbest way I've ever hurt myself with my knives.

Oh, it's gonna happen.
But, as 22-rimfire pointed out, the amount of time one is cut, depends upon how careful one is.
