I am glad all got worked out, but I am still at a loss as to why the OP would be on the hook for the $40 when PP approved the amount and he shipped the goods. Even is someone had stolen the buyers password or hacked his account, why should the seller be the one to front the bill? The seller did everything he was suppose to do. At least to me , this was a problem between PP and the buyer, not the seller.

Actually, I had no idea pp was involved. I got my credit card statement with a charge to "flyingpenis". I contested the charge. Today I received a notice from pp listing the recipients actual info, and I promptly cleared it up with the op. Again, my apologies.

My ? at this point was general, not personal. I understand what happened on your end, and it is over.
The credit card may be part of the answer, since they have their own set of rules. PP may also use a different message to the seller when a credit card is used-not sure on that.

I stopped taking "gift" payments a while ago for similar reasons, and I was gratified to find that PayPal -autofilled- the tracking information from the transaction when it prompted me for it. I had used his paypal shipping address and shipped it from PayPal's shipping service. It was all tied to the account from the get-go, and I have emails and post records to match. The thread is even locked and cannot be edited for him to change his post.

Not related to this thread, but this was a strange comment, as not more than a few days ago you asked me to pay via "Gift" and gave me a long-winded explanation as to why you could be trusted with that payment method.

^ THIS, is some very good information to know. Thanks for sharing this, NY O!

Well this went sour quickly with pretty irrelevant information.

I stopped accepting gift payments from people I don't know and trust. Any time I sell a knife, I no longer list the "net" value and only list the "shipped" with fees value. Private negotiations are just that, and general terms of sale obviously change in those circumstances.

Some things are better discussed in private (and ironic but accurate statement given what Kelama brought up). I strain to understand why Kelama thought it was relevant or even appropriate to bring that incident up so long after the fact. It seems like a completely unrelated swipe at my character. Did I wrong you at some time?

As an aside, insisting that the person who called dibs first gets the item (which I did - I insisted that BACustomknives get it once I found out he had claimed it the night prior.) is hardly throwing a tantrum. I feel like text didn't quite get my tone across.
