We should have a HI Khukuri gathering this year.

Harry,
That idea of a commemorative Khukuri sounds cool! The we could get a big group picture of everyone posing with their convention Khukuris!

I wonder what the other people in the hotel will think?

I go out of town for a couple of weeks and look what happens -- I return to find that there's a khuk khunvention in the works! Great idea, guys! Let's do it!

You can find their web site in the AOL section, use their search function to access it. We might be able to use one of their ranges if you or anyone is interested."

Oh boy. Temptation beyond endurance...

Love the idea of a commemmorative khukuri, by the way. 18" AK?

I'm a "maybe" on going to Reno in August, it would make a (probably) nice change from Vegas, although summer in the desert .....?

I'll be following the forum thread(s) to see how this evolves.

I don't know how many folks have young families, but we might have to consider school schedules when coming up with a date.

Also, if this is something we're serious about, we need a volunteer to coordinate the event and make the necessary arrangements. And, obviously, it would be best if this person lived near Reno, or was at least familiar with the place -- if, in fact, this is where we want to have it.

The bottom line is this, unless someone steps forward and agrees to take leadership of this khuk khunvention, it ain't gonna happen. All the talk in the world won't accomplish anything without action.

Reno is a great place to have a convention and is not that hot in August, generally. It is geographically lopsided, though. Kansas City might be a better location.

Comments?

If we do it in Reno I'll try to make arrangements. I need more work.

Khukuri FAQ

I think Reno would be a good location. If we did decide to use the hotel/casino right across Uncle's place it would be convenient for Uncle, and also if we needed some more Khukuris we wouldn't have to go far. I think the temptation to buy more would be very strong. Self control.....?

As a "maybe" attendee I'll vote for Reno. I haven't been there 20 years but I imagine there's plenty to do in Reno, something for everyone - singles, couples, families.

While I'm all for a khukuri konvention, I wouldn't travel 2,500 miles across the US just for that. I've been to a few "events" in Vegas, and although there was a "main event" most of the folks wouldn't have traveled to it if it wasn't in Vegas.

I'm not trying to be negative here, just passing on my own ideas/experiences.

Reno is a good place for family visits. It isn't the best shopping city but there's lots to see and do. And, for those who like the really glitzy with more action than you want or need Las Vegas is an hour away via air.

I'd vote for Reno even if I lived in Kansas City.

Khukuri FAQ

I am on my way to Reno tuesday and am staying at the hotel across the street from HI World HQ and would be glad to check into putting a group in there. The rooms are quite inexpensive to begin with, but who knows what kind of deal they might make? And we will definitely want to book some kind of hospitality suite or a small meeting room for get togethers...I don't think Bill's veranda is quite big enough nor would his neighbors appreciate a bunch of knife wielding knuts participating in our own version of Dashera.
How many people do we guess at for attendance?
I think late August would be the time and Reno the place.
Your feedback would be most appreciated.

John, you and Rusty both are close enough to make significant contribution if your are up to it if such a gathering comes to fruition. We can get serious about it when and if I get back from Nepal.

I forgot. Numbers? Somewhere between 5 and 500.

John, any info you can get from the hotel while you're in Reno would be great. For instance, what do the rooms cost and how many guaranteed guests do they need before they give us group rates? And I guess before we go to much farther, we need to start getting a handle on how many people we're realistically talking about -- perhaps we should start a "sign-up" thread?

Count me in on this khukuri convention. I've always wanted to tour the SouthWest.

Looks like at least 10 souls have expressed interest. I will talk to the Atlantis and give them these working dates:
check in friday PM 25 August,
check out monday AM 28 August.
I am guessing here guys so let's hear suggestions and please if you want to come post your name here.
Nothing is a lock, but at least we'll have a rough idea on numbers.
Thanks. This could be a real good time.
