We should probably talk about that last pre-order. The K20 do-over

New here and posted in the thread early on I'd take one or two of the K20's. Not sure how it worked as if it was announced and then first come, first serve, that's how I missed out. With such demand, maybe next time a lottery? Will learn how to get in line by the time the next ones come available. In the meantime, I've bought five CPK's, 3 from members and 2 from Jo, feel lucky but could always use more!

More explanation than i deserve. Your concern says a lot.

Unrelated story. My adult son walked out of my room with a UF gen1 and says "I want one like this!"

Mind you, i have too many knives already, and the UF was sitting right next to a dope small sword (TNT) a taliwhacker and whatever else might intrigue a young man, plus my son doesnt normally get too hyped about these things (kind of the "you're such a dork dad" thing).

Calmly and cooly says I..."oh, well I have one for you." He gives me the nod (like "that's wassup"), a little satisfied grin and says no more.

Glad i bought two in that pre-order, with a strong hunch I'd pass one to the boy. Glad a pre-order was available and glad CPK is around doing their thing.

Kick myself all the time for not picking up a Shiv (or two) years ago!

I didn't see a post from you at all in the preorder thread. 🤔

In my line of work, we purchase large amounts of copper and aluminum wire. Many 1,000 foot spools of everything from 18 and 12 gage stranded up to #4 aluminum on full spools. And prices have finally peaked months ago and are falling fast on the Chicago board.

And brokers starting to offer that down the line.

Lumber is down incredibly in the last 3 months. Brokers offering us truckload discounts daily because they don't want to sell it even lower next week.

Scrap steel down also. Hopefully steel for knives sees a decrease in the next year also.

A little torn on this.

On the one hand, "Yay, cheaper raw materials", but on the other hand, that doesn't seem to bode well for economic projections.

Certainly appreciate the thoughtful explanation. Not sure that you could have run the pre-order any differently. I was not in the market for such an item, but can absolutely appreciate the great price/value ratio therein.

Now, please tell me more about this SDFK.

Its astonishing to me that a HUNDRED swords, each costing more than my monthly mortgage payment, sold out in UNDER ONE MINUTE.

Absolutely incredible. I posted that I was "absolutely IN" on the "who would be interested in a K20" poll, but did not think - for a second - that I would need to be johnny-on-the-spot, like with the Friday drops, to get one. I checked in maybe two hours after the post went up and my head nearly exploded when I saw how many people had ordered in the first minute. 🤯🤬

I mean, 138 people said they'd be in (in the poll). The vast majority of those people were actually online, at the drop time, to order??? Jeeze

Yeah I was kind of surprised by that

The poll was up for almost 11 months, but the number of people who said they were "interested" increased dramatically in the days leading up to the pre-order. The poll showed fewer than 100, and went up to 139 at one point (maybe more?) in just a few days.

I had no doubt that they would sell out extremely fast. My first clue was how fast a K18 would sell out every time it was posted in the Friday thread. I was debating buying a K18, but I was never even close to getting in line for one.

I was able to get in the pre-order for the K20, but it wasn't exactly smooth. I hit refresh when my phone hit 5:00, but the page was still locked. I had to refresh really quickly again and then was confused since I had to scroll down past dozens of posts to get to the "Reply" section. Then when I finally hit "Post Reply", I saw that I was in the 60's. Then I just had partied all weekend at my friend's house and waited to see if I was on the list.

Yeah like toker I was expecting a sell out. Doesn't seem like anyone here realizes what a massive following katana (& katana like) swords have. There's knife nuts, sword nuts, & katana nuts. & you my good sir nathan just threw all these nuts together in one big massive sell out explosion. I bet if you sold nothing but katan-ish swords here on out with all the bazillion katana nerds out there you could buy your own island & retire, (please dont, I love your knives 😋)
