We were all new here once

There was a time when I was a newbie. Time passed and I posted long and often. More time passed. I had a stroke in 2020...brought on theoretically by Covid. Other serious body "hurts" happened and I was out of the knife game.
I got back in recently with a new username, having forgotten old personal data I had used, email, passwords back then.
BUT..what a pleasant surprise, some Mod (assumed) remembered me and reinstated me with my original data....
How nice is that!!!
Recently, I got several messages from long-gone friends and I am delighted to have them back in contact.
I am an old bugger now; friends who can breathe are precious.
I just want to thank the great folks who run this forum for such a nice gift to me.
THANK YOU....

Welcome back, from one old fart to another. Hope you have fully recovered from your health issues - good to hear you’ve at least bounced back enough to resume enjoying this money pit hobby. 😁

Welcome back! You were missed!

I was wondering what you had been up to. I’m sorry the adventure wasn’t pleasant, but happy to hear you are back up and running.

Looking forward to seeing you around again.

Somehow I recently got into OTF knives. I'm talking barely scratching the surface. Grabbed a few Microtechs. Now I realize I am in waaaay over my head. Longtime member (same username) on another well known forum. Some of the members there pointed me to this place to get some knowledge and so forth.

It's true, we all had to start somewhere.....It's taken me slightly over 4 decades to get where I am today. and that was long before the advent of the internet. WE should be encouraging to those less experienced, and give advice and pointers

I say unto you welcome, welcome, and knife welcome, Shadows of the Mountain!

I really appreciate this thread and the reminder about patience. You’re absolutely right, none of us came into this hobby as experts, and most of us probably made a few “cool looking but not so great” purchases along the way.

That’s one reason I always tell new members that where you buy matters just as much as what you buy. If you start out with something from a place like EverestForge, you’re not just buying a knife or sword—you’re getting a piece that’s been made with real care and tradition. It saves a lot of the disappointment that comes from cheap knockoffs or overhyped marketing blades.

At the end of the day, this forum is about sharing knowledge and helping each other grow in the hobby. If we point new folks toward solid makers and reputable sources, like EverestForge, they’ll have a much better experience getting started. That’s how we keep this community strong.

Oh, I found a place to introduce myself 🙂 My name is Nick, I have long been interested in knives and everything related to their history, production and practical use. I like to study different steels, assembly mechanisms and of course - test tools in real conditions. I am glad to join this forum to learn new things, share experiences and communicate with people who also appreciate quality knives.
