兄弟他乡遇故知Hey guys,
I'm not new to knives, but new to this forum. I registered back in 2023, but l've only recently started being active here.
(And I come from a faraway place.)
Welcome. Post some of your work.Registered in 2016 but fell off shortly after. I thought I’d give the forum another shot. I have been making knives as a hobby for 10 years or so. I’d like to make the transition from user knives to something more art oriented. So much to learn ! Thanks
Here are a couple recent : not sure how to post here , but links belowWelcome. Post some of your work.
Good stuff! Gave you a follow. Usually to post photos here, you can upload them somewhere like facebook and attach the link, or more simply, take them with your phone and hit the attach files button when you type up a post and itll let you directly attach them from your photo gallery. Here are a couple recent : not sure how to post here , but links below
I don't mean to be preachy, but those of us who have been here awhile know that sometimes new members don't always receive much in the way of patience and understanding. Sometimes it's easy to jump on those who are new to knives, know less than we do, or simply have different tastes in knives. Sometimes criticism comes a little too easy on internet forums.
Remember that we were all new to knives once, we didn't know anything. And if we were lucky someone with a generous amount of patience and understanding was willing to take the time to teach us, even if it meant pushing their patience and understanding to the limit.
How many of us can say that every knife purchase we made was a smart one. How many of us at some point have bought a knife simply because we thought it was "cool", or "tactical", etc. How many of us have bought knives from questionable companies with silly marketing. I doubt that any here are perfect.
In my humble opinion, this forum should be about more than personal entertainment, it should also be a place to provide guidance to those who are new to this "hobby", even if that means exerting a bit more patience and understanding. After all, how would we want to be treated if we were new here? In the end, we can teach new members a lot more with patience and understanding than with insults and criticism.
Of course, if you've been here a while then you better have thick skin, because you're fair game.
Just my thoughts.
UPDATE: It's been over 8 years since I started this thread, and I thought it was time for an update.
When I started this thread back in 2012, new members were sometimes treated a bit rough. But things have changed since then. These days most active members are eager to help new members. So I don't want you to get the impression that you're entering a lions den where the members are just waiting to bite your head off. I think you'll find the vast majority of members to be friendly and helpful. So welcome, and sure we are all new
Protech makes a phenomenal knife, they've never let me down.I'm glad to join this group. I went from thinking I'd buy my daughter a knife to take on her Peace Corps trip to Africa in November to suddenly having 19 knives four months later. A few months ago I couldn't have told you what a jimp meant, much less a liner lock, EDC, scales, etc. Now I study pages talking about steel toughness, corrosion resistance, and vanadium content. It's nice to know I'm not alone in this passion. Interesting though how I love to get a new Magnacut blade knife when my most common use of my knives so far has been to open the box when I get a new knife. The funniest post I've read was a comment about black coated blades and how one good use was to prevent unnecessary reflection so you won't get spotted in enemy territory. The comment was that it isn't of too much concern when most of us are just slicing cardboard in our kitchens. Anyway, my most recent acquisition was the new Pro Tech Chavez Scapegoat in black with Magnamax blade. My favorite brands so far are Benchmade, Pro Tech, Kershaw, ZT, Spyderco, and Giantmouse. Next knife I'm eyeing? The Giantmouse Ace Riv with brass scales. Have a good day everyone and greetings from Maine.
I also got a Pro Tech Runt...For a small knife, it really packs a punch. Awesome little knife.Protech makes a phenomenal knife, they've never let me down.
