Wear your eye protection! got a chunk of steel in my left eye

A buddy of mine who works on racecars always wears a high-quality paintball mask when grinding stuff. I guess the goggles are ANSI Z87.1 rated and he likes the fact that they hug the eyes so nothing can creep in and the mask will stop metal from burying itself into your face. Opinions?

I have been through the "pick it out, then grind away the rust" at the eye doc's six times if my memory serves. I was wearing eye protection of some sort three of those times. The worst was when a pressurized tank exploded three feet from my face, it blew me out of my insulated coveralls. It also embedded about a thousand pieces of steel and rust into my face. My glasses looked like they had been sand blasted.
Seven cosmetic surgeries and seven years later I am as handsome as ever. I still carry several pieces of steel in my head, one of which lives in my right eye. The doctors said it was too deep to go get so we left it.
On a side note, I have had two MRI's with no horrific migrations of the for mentioned steel, I think that must be a myth.
Moral of the story... Always were eye protection and if the s__t hits the fan Try to be as far from me as possible.:D

I had to have this done twice!!!

BOTH times I had safety glasses on.

I highly recommend these... in fact I need to order some more as I've worn out two pair of them.

Thanks Nick and everybody else. I've been meaning to update my eye protection and this was a nice deal from Enco for $11.95 + free shipping.

Didn't take but once for me to learn my leason. If you've never had blood fill up your vision on an eye you haven't lived. Cutting a piece of ti and a small piece floped up and poked me in the eye. Luckly it was only a surface vien, but could have been much worse. Especialy living in the country, 1 hour drive to ER, then them poking and proding, ect. After that I don't hardly go outside without safty glasses on!

shahan wow your lucky to be alive. I was going to ak if you ever had to have a MRI as the steel could move from the magnet and blind you.
