Weird habits anybody.....

I flip my Dpx hest f open every night when I take it out of my pocket for the day. Been doing it for at least a couple years. More so to test it's function but it's becoming a habit now, worse habits I guess. Not one issue so far.

I'll put a mirror polished edge on a knife that I feel "deserves" it, whether I actually want one there or not.

My Delica always has one, even though I like how aggressive it is when it's a little toothy. It's almost like I'm afraid the knife will be self conscious... I'm an idiot.

When I looked there was a cut nearly all the way through the sponge. Could have been my hand. It was from a Laconico Keen I just got back from Josh at REK.

Josh would have obviously improved that edge, but it's pretty good right out of the box. I had two, and both would push-cut Yellow Pages as received.

I have two also. One that Josh did and a newer one with the factory edge. Josh's won.

I'm okay with factory grind marks in the bevel, but when I sharpen for first time I need to get rid of the grind marks.

I do this before I put the knife away after a day of carry. Additionally, I'll check sharpness and sharpen if necessary and work a drop of oil into the pivot (for folding knives) and on the blade before it goes in the box of knives. I usually grab whatever knife I'm gonna carry right before I leave the house and I don't typically check them at that time (because I did that last time I put it away).

But if you do that, they may be half as sharp the next day. :confused::D

I was a bit disappointed when I found out that I like a toothy edge on a daily carry knife, as it meant I no longer even attempt a polish on them. It’s great in that it takes so much less time to sharpen, but I guess I miss the challenge of sharpening it all the way up a progression.

The wierdest thing about knives for me is that I definitely have the knife acquisition curse. Backups? I only get them with SAKs. Tells you something about how important they are to me.

I know I'm a little bit late to the party but
1.When I put a mirror edge that takes 2 hours (400grit to 1500 grit to Ultra fine ceramic to stropping), I don't even want to use the knife to cut anything except phone book paper.
2. when I acually cut something after putting the mirror edge, I would IMMEDIATELY strop the knife under the illusion that the knife got a tiny bit duller than it was.
I know, I'm a weirdo.:confused::D:eek:

Yes, yes you are. :eek: I don't do mirror polish (but sharpen well), however, I also strop even if I cut an envelope open. :rolleyes: I guess I'm just another weirdo. ;)
