Welching

How about sellers who don't keep track of their emails or threads. Let's say a guy says I'll take it email sent. Then crickets for days. The honest buyers money is tied up while the sale drifts into oblivion.

It's not a bad idea to name welchers in here, that way the rest of us will see if a pattern is developing.

I remember a previous thread of a deal that went bad (knives were shipped even), but the offended party was told not to bring it here as the transaction was never actually completed (or am I confusing that with leaving feedback?)

Anyway, Craytab makes a solid point as to the OP being upset that someone backed out of a deal with him, but he has no problem backing out on a deal he has struck with someone else.
I agree that one should hold himself to the same standard that he expects others to adhere to.
"Do as I say, but not as I do" is not a highly regarded method of dealing with others.

Glass houses, and all that.

You're confusing it with leaving feedback.

There has to be a line somewhere. I don't think welching is severe enough to warrant reporting. It isn't theft, it is inconvenience.

When I have a sale thread and someone posts that they'll take it, I always quote them. That way, if they back out, there is proof that they claimed it even if they edit their post. I've had a couple buyer's welch on me, but it doesn't happen often, thankfully. The biggest issue I have is knives arriving not as described. It's surprising how many people think that "like new" means beaten all over with a tire iron.

However, some folks around here have made a habit of it. There's a been a couple of times someone got called out, and a bunch of others report the same person welched on them. That person becomes less welcome around here real quick.

You mean the Distressed look isn't in anymore?

I'm not going to post mine publicly but I'll tell anyone in private . Just because I don't know the circumstances of them not getting back with me , I'd hate to call someone out and they had a death in the family etc . End of the day personal lives trump everything and unless I know for a fact someone was intentionally doing me wrong I'll keep it private .

Also my knives eventually sold .

@Sosa it goes both ways it really does, as a seller I have my email synced to come in and alert on my phone ,but as a seller i dont make a buyer contact me , if I say I'll ship on Monday and my daughter has to go to the Dr . I'll tell you little bit of common sense and a little bit of courtesy go a long way when dealing with strangers . Someone spends money with me I don't want them to ever haft to worry about anything , that's just how I do things because that's how I want to be treated as a buyer.

You've never seen the videos of xxx knife torture test , only the dummy uses the same name for everything then posts the same knife for sale , talking about only cut paper twice ...:D

Many internet buyers are not serious about having integrity in business deals; they like to change their mind as often as the wind changes direction. The best thing to do is to wait for the money to arrive, before considering the sale as a done deal.

The problem is your expectations for others are higher than the standards you hold yourself. Lastly, when you start a thread here you can expect people to look into your own practices. They should be in line with what you are complaining about. In this case I don't think they are. In fact your are actually taking money from paypal you agreed to pay. Are you out of money in this transaction that the guy reneged on?

This is a good point. And it is relevant to this post. It is hypocrisy to complain about another person backing out of a deal (which is not cool) but, that is all it is. Using PP gift for a transaction is a violation of your user agreement and theft. Now I am not the biggest fan of PP, however they provide a service a lot of us use.

Seller complaining about a buyer's integrity while asking for F&F is quite ballsy.
I can't get through my head WHY someone would look to make another 3%, while 'stealing' and then bitching about someone's lack of integrity.
I mean it's ~ $3 on $100.....is it that important?? If it is, just ask for money orders.

It's part of the "exchange" culture.

You have to find effective ways around it, but you weren't really at the point where I feel that you were really inconvenienced in any way.

First, I like to use the "I reserve the right to sell to...." In all my adds. This way I can weed out potential issues quickly.

Second, if someone say's "I'll pay you tomorrow" that to me is a 50/50...you do not mark your item "sold" or "pending" but still available.

There is no complete deal until it's a deal, and that works both ways.
I don't "hold" knives for someone I don't know.....

Sad but true. It's the times we live in I guess. Used to be "your word or handshake was your bond" No more.

What happened to the first poster has happened to me and I'm sure to all of us here on the forums at one time or another. I don't mark anything SOLD until the money is in hand or in my pp account.

I have used G&S for some deals but I use gift also. Why does it matter if both parties agree? I also don't know why craytab called me out for sending him a PM when I never did.

I'll give you a scenario:

Do you know me?

I mean we're on the same forum, I have a 100% feedback rating and an Avatar...what does that mean to you?

Does it mean that it's worth the 3% PP charges for you to send me $500 of your hard earned money and for me to send you an empty box?

Think it doesn't happen?
Stick around and you'll realize that while it's rare relative to the amount of transactions on this forum, you don't want to be the guy holding an empty box with no recourse what so ever....

Exactly....

If that $3 on $100 is a deal breaker, maybe the person you're dealing with is the issue.

Build it into the price.

You want $190.00 for something, make it $196.00. I doubt you will have issues selling it because of the difference....
