Gee, This child is really non PC; and I mean Personal Computer this time; although I gladly admit to other definitions. I had a heck of a time jumping some hoops to get here.
I did quote from memory from somewhere.
Folks who have studied the art and the science of The Gods of War, must, by necessity, draw upon history. None can make all of the mistakes themselves.
So, we study Heraclitus, Pericles,Themosteles.Marcus Antonius.Julius, and Clauswitze and more recently John R. Boyd, COL., USAF, most known for the OODA Loop. This is hardly a new concept. However,COL. Boyd did add to the knowledge. He had to retire before any one listened to him. And then, it was the Navy, not his own service who embraced his ideas.
If I am not mistaken, Heraclitus said that the only reality is change. You can not step into the same river twice.
I used to carry a mag. of tracers to mark targets when my job became more about directing fighting than doing it. My LTC.,(INF.)Batt. CDR., told me, "Daniel; you know tracers go both ways." I did not quit doing it,
but it was nice of Iron Mike to point it out.
He was WW11, Korea; was he the first to say it? I doubt it. It was the first time that I heard it.
We used to drink and sing and make up verses ad hoc. Some of these I have read later. Nobody has claimed them. To whom can they be attributed to? I don`t know, and neither does anyone else.
I remember quite a lot.
If there was enough interest, I might look it up in my mind.
I wrote a couple of journals in 1989 to try to rememger some of the things that would be lost to future generations if I did not write it down. None have read them, including me. I have never gone back to read them, and I do not intend to.
Thanks to all who have so kindly welcomed me.
Why become a shooter? `Cause pain heals, chicks dig scars and glory is forever.
I can quote this because I just sent it in an E- Mail. Don`t ask me what I said a year from now. I will neither know nor care. So, take it now, for what it`s worth.
It is time to get back to kukukries and things Nepal.
There is no harm in a bit of digression. It livens up the forum.
So say I, so say we all.
