Please ;) Did you have to show all those Brussel Sprouts:(

Rich

I sure did! One of my favorite veggies and one of the best BBQ/grill sides IMO.

Tossed in olive oil, garlic salt and lemon pepper. Put them in the pan on the grill (smoker/pellet grill is even better) until they're like chicken skin. Same goes for asparagus and broccli florets too.

The trick is to buy them farm fresh on the stalk. They don't have that bitter/sour taste like the packaged ones do.

I live on the CA coast and here in the Watsonville/Monterey/Castroville area we grow the world's best brussel sprouts, artichokes and strawberries.

Sounds delicious, you're making me hungry! Yeah, if you cook 'em in water, the secret is to use a larger pot than you think you need, and lots of water: voila, no sulphur taste. (Plus you get to use your EDC knife to pierce crosses into the stalk bases.;))

Whatever happened I wish would happen again.

Yeah, I wish GEC (or any maker) would use more O1 too.

I have 2 knives with O1. Both are GEC bullnose knives. One with the orange handle and redneck stamp the other is in green micarta. I carry the green one every day. No complaints here. I find they take to stropping really well.
I don't find much difference in day to day use as far as corrosion goes. I do get quite a bit of daily use out of mine though. So it is always getting wiped off and cutting stuff. Maybe if it was just sitting in the pocket you could tell.
I'd like to see gec put out another run in O1 to let more people try it out.

I was introduced to O1 by Fiddleback Forge. Most of my knives from him are O1. He now mostly uses A2, but his heat treat on the O1 was something special. I used and used my knives and developed such a nice patina and with a quick stroping my edge was popping my hairs off. Wonderful steel, great edge retention, beautiful patina, easy to maintain.

I want a traditional folder in O1! Love my fixed blades, but I want a folder :)

I also have a couple carving knives from Deep Woods Ventures and one Slyod knife from Pinewood Forge, those 3 are in O1 too.

I made my first two knives out of O1. ...
...I went through all those brussel sprouts with just my two little knives. The tall blade of the nessmuk allows you to pinch grip it like a chefs knife and makes it much more usable in the kitchen.

- Oh you made me excited for the harvest. Our front yard is six large planter boxes, and one of them is full of Brussel Sprouts. I dig your blades!

My one and only O1 knife: @JK Knives Blue Gill. I definitely dig the quick ability for patina, and I find it responds well to both stones and the strop. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to pick up other knives in O1.

- I have been ogling JK Knives for a while. What a good looking little fixed blade!

Some nice knives in this thread!
black mamba black mamba
Jeff, a Behring, by father or son, has been on my list for awhile. Nice one!
Here's another pretty one in 01 and Cocobolo. Made by Lamont Coombs. An amazing mirror polish on this one.

- Stunning Cocobolo, Gary. That knife looks like it feels great in the hand.

I don't have any 01 yet, but I just bought a Blind Horse fixed blade (in 01) 15 minutes before I saw this thread.

- I look forward to your photodocumenting it's arrival and subsequent use for us ;) Blind Horse and LT Knives both rock.

I've got three knives in O-1. The 71 Bull Nose from 2014 was gifted to me at the 2015 Rendezvous by Primble. He bought it on the front porch of Great Eastern Cutlery from the late Bob Andrews. There is a pretty good chance it will remain as is! :)

These two 47 Hayn' Helpers are from the first run in 2012. The 2 blade in Nifebright Acrylic is still mint. These two blade models are a little thicker than I like to carry. The 1 blade in Orange Delrin now has Patina, actually more than this photo shows as it was taken several years ago. It gets carried in my EDC rotation. It is tough, lightweight, takes a good edge and makes a great work knife.

- I felt the same way about the 2 blade Hayn' Helper. I also like the 71 contour better than the 47. Either way, hard to beat

Don't know what happened with the pic there.

- I don't know either, but I'd like to see! I'd love to get my hands on an O1 Bull Buster or several ;)

O1 is one of my favorite steels, for reasons already mentioned here-- an easily maintained edge and wonderful patina, etc.

I am currently feeding my O1 Freeman Forge Pocket Muk daily apples...

- Sarah, that picture you took is just as much fun as the knives. Careful you don't lick that patina off... :p

- Do it. Don't not do it.

The center one is 1095, the rest are O1

- What handsome blades. I've admired his lines for a while. That knife on the bottom looks like it's right up my alley. Is that a Macasar-ish ebony, or some Coco with a stripey attitude?

I love this steel too, it's definitely one of my favourites.

Yeah, I wish GEC (or any maker) would use more O1 too.

- So right now I've got Black Delrin and Red Linen, with an Orange Delrin Redneck Pivot on the way. I agree, GEC would make me happy if they used O1. I chatted with @waynorth about it, though, and Bill decided that he wasn't going to use O1 anymore. I guess whatever it costs them to keep the other steel stock, and to get the heat treat on O1 isn't worth what he viewed as too little of difference in the end product. And that makes sense from that side. But, based on my use, I'd still take O1 over 1095 any day.

- Andy and his crew make outstanding knives. I got to meet them and check out their shop when I lived in GA. They have a lot of fun, and he's a bright shiny adventure of a person.

Yes, GEC made several runs of the Farm and Field knives in O1 across a few years. Last run was either 2014 or 2015, though. They pop up every now and again. This year alone I have acquired (now) three O1 71s, and had two 47 Hayn's that I sold.

- I just dig your pictures. Well played.

Traum, that pointy point and the general stabiness of the whole knife drew me in like a spell! :D

That is macassar ebony. Top to bottom they are:
Kamagong (philippine ebony, very similar to macassar)
Bloodwood
Micarta
Narra (from a board that my wife's cousin was using to block a gap on the bottom of the back door of the house on his bangus fish farm outside Dagupan, Philippines)
Macassar (When I got it from ebay, I was told that the block from which this was cut was from the Philippines, and I suspect that it may actually be kamagong)
