It took the better part of 15 yrs, but I finally gashed myself pretty good. Turns out the DTBM is a feisty mistress!

I was refining the edge last night, taking it to a higher polish. Hard to describe exactly what happened as it's a bit of a blur, but basically I was inspecting the edge and I fumbled the blade a bit. Next thing I knew there was a nasty laceration in my thumb. I guess the sharpening was a success, lol. Fortunately I have good coverage and live about 5 minutes from a hospital, so I let the pros patch me up.

(Pro-tip: Try to avoid the ER on Labor day weekend, it was crazy busy )

All things considered it's not too bad and should heal up well, but apparently there was a lesson I needed to learn. Be careful out there folks!

Only one way to deal with this........take that DTBM out back and beat the snot out of her. Every time my Choppy bites me, she gets beaten hard. This seems to calm them down for awhile.

Yeah buddy! She's going to get a good spanking soon.

I put a paracord d-guard on it a few days ago and look forward to seeing how I like it in use, but when I was out yesterday (before the incident) I grabbed my Boom Parang instead. I reprofiled it to 15° per side and it's pretty wicked.

That'll heal in no time! it's just another battle scar :D.

I agree, the cut was so clean it barely hurts at all, should heal fast. Not sweating it too much, it sucks, but I'm trying to treat it as one to grow on.

no you have created a bond between you and the knife. Blood brothers!!

Too bad you weren't sharpening a Chaparral instead...
My gosh, that's a big knife...

A sober reminder that these blades can do some real damage...

On a side note, I'm not a fan of the double talon or D guard, but you've got that one looking EXTRA SEXY!!!

I hope you didn't hit any nerves and I'm sure you'll heal up in two shakes!

Thanks Petey!

Once I ordered the BME2, I tried to set myself up to not like the DT, but despite the "incident" it's really one of my favorite blades, especially since it's been personalized and beat on. :D

Thx all for the comments and goodwill.

Glad they got you stitched up, looks good. Only takes a second. I split my thumb a few months ago while cutting a watermelon. Wasn't that bad and didn't go to ER, but it just leaves you with a goofy look on your face, thinking why in the heck did I let that happen?

Yep, exactly.

I very briefly considered bandages/superglue for this. It would have healed, but I'm glad I went in for the sutures.

This one's for you buddy, lined up at the choil, lol:

My Chaparral could easily do a lot of damge too though. It's been thinned out and cuts like a friggin laser. The distal taper on it looks crazy since it's so thin, not for prying.

It happens,
I was just telling my son the other day, if a blade is ever falling out of ur hands, To Not try to catch it, just let it fall.
Hope It heals up quick.
P.S.
Thats one of the best looking DTBM you got there. Looks great,
Now i know what ill do to mine, if i get one in a Bag.

Bummer about the thumb. Good to bring up though as i have alot of close calls but have inly got myself good a few times. And i do get complacent pretty fast.

Also that drbm looks great stripped. Im now rethinking selling mine. I might just need it. [emoji12]

Thanks for the reminder post. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji109]

Good news is since it was so sharp that cut will heal fast. Ragged cuts cause more tissue damage = slower healing.
