About two months ago, I started this thread about Utilikilts. Well, I've had mine now for long enough to give my opinion.
Fit: The fit was a miracle. From what I understand, it's really hard to fit one of these for yourself without trying them on, which I didn't have the ability to do. Luckily I found this really cool lady at a company called Chunk Rock Studios who was very helpful. With what she told me, I chose a size. It fit perfect. The way the fit worked out for me was 2" more than my pants size.
Comfort: Of course it's comfortable. It's non-stop air conditioning. The material that they use is a good strong material yet very comfortable and soft. The comfort and size of the material hasn't changed at all since I got it. Washing doesn't fade or shrink it. Even with the pockets full of junk, it still hangs very well. The main thing that I like is the airflow though. Especially in the summer, I have a tendancy to sweat and the moisture and fabric rubbs me the wrong way all the time with pants. With pants, some Goldbond powder is a good idea for long hikes. Not necessary with the Utilikilt.
Appearance: It's no secret that the thing is still a modern kilt. I don't feel comfortable wearing it everywhere. Mostly its for around the house, working around the shop on the weekends, events where it wouldn't be extremely uncommon, and hiking and camping with good friends, with the wife, or alone. In my opinion it looks good. That doesn't meen much though. In the early eighties, I thought I looked good in neon breakdancing attire, so my opinion of what looks good has to be closely monitered by the wife.
General opinion: I think it's a pretty cool piece of clothing, and in the right environment and conditions, is a very good alternative to regular pants or shorts. You do have to learn how to sit down differently, same as with a regular kilt, so that your bum doesn't get all dirty and you don't accidently dip yourself in anything, but you get used to it quick. The pockets are great. They hold a lot of junk. Urinating is fun. Just lift up and let 'er rip. Pooping, not so easy. I recomend anyone who has ever been curious about them to try one out. I love to go hiking and camping in mine and just lounging around the house in it. It is super duper comfortable. I decided to get another one of the "modern kilts" from another company. I wanted one in OD green and Utilikilt doesn't make one in that color. Amerikilt does though, so I'm going to give that one a try as well.
