Well is been two months since I got the Utilikilt...

Likewise. I think nothing of a fellow wearing a kilt, but I like pants just fine for myself.

I've been looking at them for years but never bought one.

I have the nylon hiking pants with the mesh and that helps with the chafing but I've always thougt the kilt would be best.

There is also a "Hiking Kilt" that you can buy online and was or is carried by REI.

The question I have always had was

#1 how heavy is the kilt?

#2 how quickly does it dry.

If they would make one out of the lightweight nylon like the sip off hiking pants I'd get one in a minute.

Good to see the kilt is still going strong and getting to the type of areas it should be worn in.

I checked their website and then saw the prices, I may look into getting a spare kilt from a 2nd hand shop up the road it's about $75 for an ex-hire kilt. While it won't be my tartan and may be a little worn in that shouldn't be a problem for the woods.

Now here's my question, what about the mosquitoes and other flying biting pita? I get swarmed by them at the best of times never ming letting them have a straight shot at my family jewels.

As a side not if anyone wants me to pick up a kilt for them i'd be happy to. Just shoot me a pm to talk it through.

$75?!?! oh man, oh man , oh man.

For bugs I wear long tight leg boxers when hiking (sorta like biking shorts) but even when I'm commando it's not generally a problem.

Rotte: what size?

is it wrong I chuckled upon looking at the website ? I will stick to pants or shorts brother...to each his own,Congrats if it works for ya ! :D

That's great! I've wanted one for a few years now, but didn't think I could pull it off. I might have to get one anyway. I'm always up for a scrap.

I have some Scottish heritage but I'm dark skinned so don't look it. My wife has begged me not to get one, but I'm always checking out the kilt selection at Highland Games.

Check out the Apoco kilt from Needle Pimp. It's made for the backwoods...

Post PICS or you are a LIAR! ;):D

Doh... JRE beat me to it... obviously an honest man!

The apoco looks interesting.

for anyone short of cash, the 3 I've made myself are all trad, it's very easy to do. I just used Olive drab duck instead of $50/yard tartans

If someone wants to sew their own quick and easy canvas kilt, here is a guide to the X Kilt posted on the X-Marks The Scot website:

Check out the Apoco kilt from

Okay-- so checked out the Apoco kilt, and started looking at pictures. Then I found the one with the gun/holster in the side pocket. So, I call my wife in to show her-- and she smacks me it the head, telling me it was for my own good!

No kilt for me. :( :D

Esav- I never thought of that. You're so right! The thing is, my wife just told me that it's better that she smack me in the head, than having everyone else doing so. :D

Misanthropist- come on. You're one of those few who could carry it off. As for me, I'm much too good looking! :)

"Honey, does this kilt make my butt look fat?"

LOL! I don't tell other people what to wear, I just mock them for their choices!

In all honesty I don't care if guys want to wear kilts but I don't think I could get in to it myself. I admit I used to wear one sometimes as a punk rock teenager, though. But I couldn't see myself out on the town in one!

More power to you guys who do, though.
