Well It Worked

A few days ago J. Williams was showing off his new Laconico blade for all to admire. I lamented that I could never catch Ray when he could take new orders and asked Jake for his secret. Well Ray chimed in and said for me to send him a email and he would see what he could do.

After searching blade forums and his picture site for his knives, I decided on a and Mathew Hazard HWK and an 8" knife from his picture gallery. After several emails I am now in line and they should be here in about a month.

I guess I'll have to learn how to post photos to show off these and the other seven knifes from blade forum knife makers.

Jake did the same thing to me. Teased me with his good stuff and I ordered from Ray too. I got a HWK+ a few months back and it is fabulous!

I just ordered me a bowie from him, and an exporer with a 9in blade. I am hooked.

, I am sure there will be more, I am peepin a camp cleaver pretty hard, and would like another Project W, and HWK+ for backups. They are my favorite blades.

You will love them. Fantastic blades.:thumbup:

Yeah you guys are keeping me real busy. Good thing cause my wife got layed off on New Year's eve. Now I have to get off my butt and go make some knives!

I ordered the top knife in the sixth picture (cc5.jpg) on Ray's picture site. Ray said it has no name. It seems to have a similar shaped handle as the HWK, which I like. I did not want to order a HWK+ because Mathew Hazard would get a swelled head for ordering two of his designs.

Well since Matt now has a swelled head, I shouldn't worry about ordering a HWK+ once I give the first two a good workout. Although I really like my JK Long Clip Hunter which is about the same size.

PS. I suspected his fingerprints were on the Base Camp since the handle was similar.

I hope my head isn't swelled! It is pretty big to begin with... seriously, I have a big head and a funny name. Those knives would have never turned out so refined if not for Ray. Both the Base Camp and the HWK were based on designs that Ray was already working on. I just tweaked them. He is the mastermind!

We're not really worried about it Jake. It's probably a good thing. She wasn't making much and it wasn't a nice place to work. She'll be better off. We'll be fine financially. Thanks!

It's called the Base Camp because I wouldn't want to have to carry far. It's a big knife!

Thats wonderfull. I know all about workin jobs you hate. It took quite a few before me and my wife found our niche, and do what we love.:thumbup:

The idea on the HWK series was to create my idea of an all-around great woods knife - hence the name Hazard Woods Knife. The HWK+ was designed to be more scalable than the HWK. The thicker blade stock and larger handle works for blades of just about any length from small to potentially even a chopper.

The Base Camp is a pure camp knife. It was designed to be a batoning monster. It is .25" thick at the spine and made from 5160 so it should take any kind of batoning in stride. I once tried to baton a piece of seasoned hard wood that was nearly as wide as the Base Camp is long. The wood was so hard and so wide that eventually the knife froze fast about half way through the log. I bit off more than I could chew. So what do you do when you have one of Ray's hardcore knives? Well, I just flipped the log over and beat the Base Camp back out the way it came by repeatedly smashing the handle with my baton. It is truely an awesome knife.
