Well...It's Friday...

Allison was banned this week for posting the sale without a dealer membership. I don’t think it was ever an issue before until the name changed from Fiddleback forge to knife outpost.
So, Fiddleback Outpost became Knife Outpost? Then on Jan 20th they changed the thread name from Fiddleback Friday to Fixed Blade Friday, then they banned her this week? Was there no sort of warning? Was there no "hey if you change this then you gotta change that" sort of conversation before banning her, after Andy's been paying for this subforum for what like 14 years now and is the reason a lot of people joined BF?

I have those same questions but not necessarily my place to ask, that about sums up my understanding of the situation.

Me too, hope things work out, the Fiddleback sales were one of the reasons I started looking into purchasing one, and browsing more of the makers’ forums.and renewing my subscription. I’m staying, for a lot of reasons, but it left a sour taste for a little awhile. I know we have rules for a reason, let’s see if things can be worked out and we all can still enjoy a fun place.

Guys, I'm not going to get involved in this issue...but the owner of this site has determined that the individual running that dealership needs to have a dealer membership here to advertise their sales. So, please do not link to any non-supporting vendor or the posts will be moved offline and warnings may be issued.

Fiddleback Forge and / or the other party can contact Spark Spark to work out any unresolved issues. (I am not involved in those matters.)

Please respect the owner's decision until anything changes.

Not sure what the issue is. The BladeForums rules have been in place for decades now. Dealer sales need to be confined to the appropriate dealer subforums. I responded to a report about a dealer advertising without a paid subscription outside of the exchange and banned said dealer. If they'd been advertising as a dealer for months without buying a subscription that doesn't mean it was condoned or approved by us.

I don't frequent this subforum so I wasn't aware that they were affiliated, or that a name change occurred. Regardless, dealer sales require the appropriate paid subscription and should be confined to the Dealer section of the exchange.

I thought the point of the knifemaker subforums was more freedom in that regard especially with those associated with the knife maker who opened the sub forum, as far as I know the people being punished here have been doing things this way for years and are associated with the Fiddleback brand and seem to have brought a good number of paying members to the forum. Again maybe I misunderstood the maker specific sub forums but I thought they could sell within their own forum without having to go through the exchange. If that’s not the case it would seem quite a few of these subforums are not following that rule, I myself was planning on paying to have my own subforum but now I’m not sure if there would be any benefit.

It appears to me that the individual handling sales for Fiddleback is a third party which also sells the work of various other makers on their site.

It's not the same thing as some of the other dedicated sub-forums on this site where the sales promoted are only by and for that particular maker, whether conducted inside their sub-forum or on the Exchange. I believe this is where the issue lies.

Fiddleback could conduct sales here or in the Exchange and nobody would bat an eye. It's having a third party dealer handling the sales and their site being promoted that I believe is at the core of the issue, since they are receiving the benefit of steering members to their site without having a dealer membership here.

I'll leave the rest to Spark Spark as I'm getting outside of my lane.

ETA:

As an example, one of the sub-forums where I'm active conducts their sales on the Exchange as well as within their sub-forum. They also, from time to time, farm out some of their knives to a dealer which is not a site supporter. That dealer is never linked to, nor specifically mentioned in their threads or the posts of the membership...and everyone knows the reason is because the dealer is not a site supporter. So nobody is treating this maker differently, even if things were conducted in a certain fashion without the knowledge of admin here.

Thank you Blues for taking the time to respond, I feel I too am getting out of my lane so I’ll leave this conversation be. I hope everyone has a great Friday
