I have read many horror stories in this forum of people losing their sebenzas and I never thought I would join the group, but on Monday night I did. I am at Disneyland with my parents and I decided to go off and ride Splash Mountain in the single riders line. I rode it five times in a row, each time checking my sweat pants pockets to make sure my knife and copper hinderer investigator pen were still there. On the sixth time through, I got completely off of the ride before I remembered to check my pocket, just my luck, it was gone. I told the ride operators and they checked every boat they had running that night( about 40 boats in total). They couldn't find my knife anywhere. I filed a missing item report with the lost and found and they told me I would not get my knife bak if they found it because I was violating their no weapons policy. Interesting enough it is not posted anywhere in or around the park that knives are not permitted. If they do find my pen and knife my dad will raise hell to get it back. I figure since I'm only 19 they will not listen to me but they will listen to my dad. If any of you CRK fans are in the park keep an eye out for a small carbon fiber 21.

What items are not permitted within Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure Park?

Items not permitted include, but are not limited to, the following:
Weapons of any kind (including guns, knives, billy clubs, brass knuckles, nunchucks, stars and other martial arts equipment)
Self-defense equipment (pepper spray, mace, stun guns)
Restraining devices (e.g., handcuffs, zip ties) or any suspicious items (e.g., box cutters, razor blades, duct tape, wire) I'm surprised you got in the park with you're knife?

Sorry to hear about your loss. And I too am surprised you were able to get into the park with a knife. Just out of curiosity, did you have it clipped to your pocket when you went on the ride? The reason I ask is because I've carried a knife in Disneyland before, but I've always kept it deep in my pocket.

Surprised here too. Rules have been pretty clear to me at Disney World, although I've never been to Disneyland.

When I was at Disneyworld, the "security" guards would do a 3 second cursory search of purses and backpacks, but there were no magnetometers or other security measures. Whatever was hidden in your pockets stayed there with no problem. They used Mickey Mouse back scratchers to probe purses and backpacks, so they would not have to stick their hands in there. So even that was not much of a search.

Though you did violate their no knives policy, they have no legal basis for stealing it from you if they find it. The problem is that you will never know if they find it, because they will never tell you. It may have very well been found and pocketed by another Disney attendee.

Sadly, you will almost certainly have to eat this one and just move on. Losing a CRK has to be a major bummer, but just to keep it in perspective, there are many people in this world who are truly suffering with disease and death and who would be happy to trade places with you. Hang in there, remember the pain, and maybe it will help you to not lose something much more valuable in the future.

I distinctly recall being slightly pissed off about 20 years ago when I took my kids there and had to take my little slip-joint all the way back to the car.:o Oh well, their park, their rules.:)

Sorry you lost you're knife, the good news is you can replace it at some point.

I looked online and I then saw the lis of prohibited items. The list is nowhere by the purse checking station or by the entrance. I had it in my pocket just like I do every day. If they were so concerned about knives in the park they should have it posted were guests can see it or have metal detectors. If they find it they could ship it to your house at your expense. If an employee sees it clipped to your pocket, they would give you a choice of confiscation or leaving the park. So they should return the lost knife to you outside of the park

Ouch, this one hurts.

Even as a Police Officer Disney World / Land is a whole other animal. I would have probably left it in the car against my will or stuffed it in my shoe until walking through the entrance (did I say that out loud?). Although I like theme parks I highly dislike crowds and feeling unarmed.

My friends and I frequent DLand and always keep knives on us. To us knives are tools, but we understand where Dland comes from. My partners and I are all either State officers or Firefighters so it's really just a habit to have a knife on us (plus it feels so weird without it in the pocket) Multiple times we've been turned around when we leave them clipped in our pockets. My buddy had a run in with a hag and she told him take it back to the car or give it over so they can confiscate it (give it to anaheim pd) so he dug a hole in some planters and hid his knife. When we came out there were a couple of holes dug up in the vicinity of the area. But they didn't find his knife. We thought it was kind of wild for them to go look for it but it is what it is.

I actually was walking up to the line to get through the "security checkpoint" and remembered i had my Emerson on me so i threw it in my pocket. I made it through the checkpoint and a lady came up to me and then asked me for my knife. I said i didn't have one and an old guy walked up in a Hawiian shirt and huge straw hat on (total tourist look) and showed me his badge and said he saw me walking in from the street with it in my pocket. So i showed him my badge and asked him what happens now? He then laughed but asked me to keep it in my pocket or put it back in my car or give it over, no way in hell was i doing that... So I just took it back to my car since he was cool. So we learned to give them to the girls or leave em in the car. In all honesty Dland isn't truly a place for knives... And we understand why.

Things have changed. As a WDW cast member from the 70's, I used to carry a slip joint in the pocket of my monorail costume. Guests were allowed to have pocket knives back then. Sorry to hear about your CR.

Smart post and good advice.

Bummer, sorry that had to happen. Moral of the story: Never carry a valuable knife on a Ride like that or in Sweat Pants. Hard lesson learned the hard way.

It is a hard lesson learned indeed. It is force of habit that i brought it with me. I guess there is no sense in worrying about it, I just have to accept that its gone for good.

The lesson to be learned goes something like this:

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I hope you never have to go through this again.

A real shame. I am sorry for your loss. Posts like this remind me why I do not take Sebenzas places where they are very likely to slip out of the pocket.

I usually take SAK beaters into amusement parks. The small size, functional design, and low cost make them a fine choice.

Me too when I'm traveling to places like that I bring a SAK cheap and easy to replace.

Yes...useless pockets...

Very true... :(
