Well, She's Gone.

Lots of good advice here. When traveling to a place like Disney, always bring a beater. After all, some beaters are pretty nice knives these days. When it comes to situations like this, though, Disney always wins.

Wow - I spent a day walking through Disney World this summer with a damascus mammoth mnandi in my pocket. I'm feeling pretty fortunate.

So sorry to hear about your missing piece. As others have said, though, this is a painful learning experience, but one that can be fixed.

I got popped by security when carrying a knife at Disney. They made me go back to my car and put it back. They followed me with cameras and a security guard on a bike to make sure I did it. Funny story, I had a friend who was at Disney once with a spyderco salsa. He was walking to a ride when he heard a commotion. He went over to see what was going on and found a kid, who was wearing an Indiana Jones style hat, wrapped up in a turnstile and choking on the chinstrap. He whipped out his knife and cut him loose. I guess he was lucky enough to have his blade on him that day.

I would say "welcome to the club"..But I am sure that I will not find one person who wants to be a member of this "club"..including me.
There are, I believe, 5 stages to the loss

1) Denial: Why did I do that?
2) Anger: WHY DID I DO THAT!?!?!??!
3)Bargaining: Posting ad in major Craigslists for reward: receiving multiple attempts from respondees. Most are teh fakes found just about everywhere..Others are the usual craigslists flakes.
4)Depression: It's really gone. Reaching down to that familiar corner of the bluejeans pocket to find the emptiness is unbearable. :(
5)Acceptance: It's time to go shopping for a new CRK :)

What stage are you at?

BTW- If you can't tell..I have indeed lost a Sebenza :(

I am still in phases one and two. It was such a preventable loss. I am still kicking myself for forgetting to check my pockets. In a few days I will be home and reunited with my two other sebenzas, but my favorite one is forever lost.

I know thats a hard loss brother. But honestly look at the upside... You can get a new knife now! (I know it doesn't seem like much of a win) But keep that chin up, use this as a lesson learned and as a oppertunity to pull the trigger on that one knife you've been debating over. (we all have our favs but want to get another!)

Good luck

Sorry to hear about your loss my friend. I am unfortunately one of the members of the " I lost a CRK club ". Its a club that I pray none of us ever experience in our lifetime, especially more than once. I lost a Large 21 Silver Dog Paws earlier this year and it still stings....!!!..........I EDC'ed mine along with 3 others in a rotation. I thought it was in my little canvas pouch. When I went to rotate, it was not there. I have looked high and low. I have even moved since then, so I went through Everything I own and could not find it......With mine, I never knew it was missing, so it was hard to retrace my steps...!!!

I think I would be in Phase 2 for a long time myself.
I don't remember you telling us what model this was.
Another sad point is that some Disneyland employee might end up with it, and more than likely not ever truly appreciate what he has.
Sorry for your loss.

If this is the case, a possible scenario is if he/she found it, they might take it home, do some google searching to see what it is, realize worth, then...

It might not hurt to call some pawn shops in the area and look on Craigslist in that area or even nationwide as a park visitor could've picked it up and driven or flew home with it. The unlikely scenario is that a knife collector/aficionado picked it up. Or either it's still sitting in the bottom of the Splash Mountain pool.

Pardon me for asking but why would you ever want a knife inside of Disney Land? People carry knives for three different comfort levels: utility-there's nothing you would need to cut; defense-if you used a pocket knife to defend yourself in Disneyland you'd end up in jail; and literal comfort "I have to have the weight of it in my pocket"-not very comfortable if you're constantly checking if you've lost it. Leave it in the car or bring a jarbenza. Not even remotely necessary to carry a knife.

Jfalkos- I carried it for utility, to cut up my lunch, cut a loose thread or open up a souvenir package.
Uofaengr- i am going back into the park tomorrow saturday and sunday, i plan on riding splash mountain a few more times. I am going to take my flashlight and look in the water as i flow down the current. I am also going to keep checking the lost and found. It seems they think it is in a little handbag of some sort so i am going to show them a picture of the pouch so they know what im referring to.

I'll never understand why the motives of a person, without ill intent and who poses no threat to anyone else, are questioned as much as they are. Especially in a forum like this. He carried it because he wanted to. That's good enough for me, and I find no fault at all with it. If I HAD to go to Disney, I would discreetly carry a knife too. But, because I don't agree with their rules, and have no interest in a Disney park, I choose avoidance if possible.

I can't imagine NOT having a knife on my person. Maybe I've spent too much time living in the country, but my day job is in the city and I still find myself using the knife FREQUENTLY. I also get requests to borrow my knife, often from folks who would question my need to carry one. Ironic? Yes.

I carry a knife wherever I can...and often wherever I can't. I just couldn't see myself bringing a knife to a place where I know that even if I wanted to use it, I wouldn't. Rescuing the kid is an awesome, awesome example of why I'm wrong though. Perhaps I would just keep my Style CS on my keys!

That's interesting. A guard at Disney World told me a couple of years ago that anything under 3 inches is fine but it can't be visible.

I totally agree. I get asked why I "need" to drive an 8,000 pound Chevy Suburban, as if I have to justify it. I answer by saying that I reject the question. I drive it because want to. It has tons of room and will completely squash your Prius if we are ever in a wreck. The same is true with knives, lights, MTs and Spongebob undies. We are not required to justify or explain any of it. But we also have to balance that libertarian instinct with real world pragmatism, and that means that we have to be careful, or sneaky, when entering amusement parks, stadiums, and other public venues where so-called "security" might be present. But I totally understand why Brother Bali would carry a knife into Disneyworld, because to the average Bladeforums guy, a knife is no more a threat to public safety than are car keys, a Sharpie pen or anything we carry on daily basis.

One of the many reasons not to wear sweat pants out in public. ;) Hard lesson learned about keeping your property secure.

That's a bummer man. I wonder if they guy who picked it up knows what he has.
Imagine finding a CRK on the ground  :D
