Well, somebody thinks I am a real SOB

Actually, I appreciate the responses. It gives me a better understandiong of what people may think about various aspects of buying/selling/trading...and also gives me some options I may have never thought of before. This has been a help to me, and I would like to thank all for the responses.

I read all your rules Richard and can't see anything wrong with any of them. Of course, as you mention later, each is up to interpretation in a different situation. I would love to get that much information before a deal goes down. I always state what my expectations/preferences are and then ask for the other persons before I ship money or knife. It's just smarter that way and gives you objective proof of a persons intent from the get go. Someone can't say "I wanted it shipped insured for 3 grand." if you have their original email stating insurance wasn't necessary. I think it is smart to state things like that and it is even smarter to read that list and then offer alternatives to anything you have concerns with.

As far as the international stuff goes. I've dealt with Wyrm and 2Sharp. The shipping goes through UPS and they do everything. It does cost a significant amount more with shipping to Canada being roughly over double what shipping is in the US. The only thing that happened with my deal with Wyrm is that the package got held by Customs for a day for what appeared to be routine inspection. It told me that on the tracking software so it was never like the package was in limbo. It first stated "Package held by Customs in 'X' city" and then when it was on it's way again the tracking stated that as well. It was just like tracking something shipped in the US. On the other end I think you have to pay duties and taxes when they receive but Wyrm might be able to fill you in more about that. That's why you want to know how they want the box to be listed as far as value. 2Sharp is a good resource as well as he had it down perfect as far as which day it would arrive and which day he would receive and he hit both marks dead center. International in other countries might be different but Sweden and Canada were no problem from my experience. UPS pulls through for you just like here.

I recently did a deal with Richard in which he described the knives and I agreed to purchase.Knives came in the mail and were as described.
Knew the rules before the transaction.
Great guy to deal with.
Will do it again I'm sure.

Richard, all the knives that I have gotten from the US I have had sent by Priority Post. You would have to check the exact amount they charge. I send an extra $15.00 to cover shipping and have never been told that that is not enough.

Another reason that I like the Post Office is that they only charge $5.00 (this may recently have increased to $8.00) to do all the customs paperwork. UPS charge a minimum of $30.00 to do the same thing.

All you have to do is take it the post office and tell them you want to ship Express or Priority Post (either one can be tracked and insured), tell them what you are shipping, fill out the shipping label and pay them.

I was just told that the Canadian Post Office does not allow knives to be sent through the Postal system. I have never had one stopped and have told people at Post Offices that I am shipping a knife. You may want to look into this though since I remember a thread from a few months ago that mentioned UPS having the same policy. Anyone out there know for sure what the policy of UPS and the Post Office really is?

I don't know if this helps you in any way, I sure hope so.

By the way, I think your conditions, the way you explained them, are very reasonable and would cause me no problems at all.

If Richards states his policies up front and the buyer agrees to them, then that's that. If you don't like it, don't buy from him. The seller has every right to put conditions on his sale if he wants to.

FedEx or UPS have no "3 day return" stipulation, their insurance is better and their tracking system actually works.

Your Honor, I am not a professional knife dealer -- my business is bank robbery. I only commit mail fraud as a hobby, so the law doesn't apply to me.

One more thing, Your Honor -- it says right here in my ad "all sales final" and the sucker sent me his money anyway without even having seen the knife. If you can't cheat an idiot who can you cheat?

-John Dillinger

Ok Cougar, no need to hide behind supposedly clever little quotes. If you have something to contribute or say, then do it. I prefer straight talk over second rate attempts at silly sayings.

Literary criticism is always appreciated....

I do not mean to imply that Richard is at all comparable to John Dillinger, of course -- there's never been a complaint about him posted. However, if he does have a complaint someday and he refuses to refund the buyer's money he might as well be John Dillinger as far as the Mail Fraud Division is concerned.

By the way, I wouldn't want to malign John Dillinger's memory either. He didn't say any of those things. The only quote from him I recall is when he was asked why he robbed banks he answered, "Because that's where the money is." Or was it Willie Sutton who said that? They say memory is the second thing to go....
