Poor, poor mailman...

He'll need a few days off by the end of this week.

Four triangle boxes showed up at my office today:

I told my wife "You can judge a fool by number of triangle boxes in his arms".

She smiled reeeeaaaaaal wide....a little too wide if you ask me.

Well, here they are = the first four khuks to arrive - to be redone and convexed (which must be better than just plain "vexed")

For those who's khuks are listed below - check my list to make sure I got your "order" right. If you see something missing, or just plain coveting thy neighbor's request, just let me know. It's all the same to me.

First on the list is Bruisey's 15" AK

...and list:

Next, the 20" AK villager that went to clearblue for $35 !!!
$%^&#$@

This thing is really beat-up. Looks like crap. I can see why Bill sold it for what he did. It's going to need a major overhaul.

Close-ups of damage to edge and finish:

List:

Next: mPisi's Sarki-shop-wrapped beauty.

Not much to do really, just a little touch-up.

Last: raghorn's villager. Again, not much to do, just new edge and finish.

Here are the first four all together at once.

Now, I told BruiseLeee that I'd redo his non-villager on one condition only = that he put it through the same tests I'll be putting it through. Kind of a before and after thing...

Here's the first test:

And the 2nd test:

:D :D :D

(this will drive him crazy since they're in .wmv format...:D )

Oh....and what about that special finish on the blade, Bruise?

The brutality and sheer abusiveness of your test methods are quite appalling. It's probably for the best that Bruise can't read your file format.

:D :p ;)

Can I get fries with that? :)

Here's the correct link for the second test.

If I wanted to do those tests, I'd sharpen those myself. :D ;)

Gee, the postal service in the States is so quick. I thought I'd have to wait 2 weeks for it to get to you.

As for the finish, it doesn't matter. If you get inspired to do something and have enough time, feel free. Except for maybe the fish gut etching method.

Actually Dan I'd prefer a high-gloss finish on the wood handles if you're up to it.

Corrected...:o :o :o

Bruise - did you go out and get a media player just for this?

such devotion to the cause...:D

Dan, if you wouldn't mind, put a good edge on the karda of mine as well. Good to see everything got there, looks like you're in for some fun.

If you have windows I think they force you to have Media Player. :(

Kind of a goofy way to do it with netscape though. Open the link while getting all sorts of wierd characters onscreen, then cut the link and paste it in the "Open URL" option in Billy Gates' media player. :p

The loop is brown, yes? I told ya so. :D

If anybody wants a layer of polyurethane coating (either in replacement to, or addition to an oil-based finish), please let me know. I can do it in either satin or glossy.

The polyurethane alone will still seal it up very well. The satin finish doesn't build up, while the glossy finish builds up a lot, and quickly. More build-up = more sheen. However, the price to pay is that you no longer "feel the wood" (you've coated it with a synthetic material). Just FYI. Let me know.

Definitions:

Satin finish on the handle to me means taking an oil-based finish right up to before it starts to get glossy. The handle still feels like wood, but it's sealed up nicely. Can also achieve this with the polyurethane.

Glossy finish on the handle means you enough oil-based finish so that you have to wait 48-72 hours between coats because of extreme build-up. OR, a glossy coat of polyurethane finish - quick and easy. (or both, I guess :D)

Satin finish on the blade means hand-rubbed finish up to 600 or 800 grit. User-type stuff.

Glossy finish on the blade means time at the buffing wheel. But no promises on restoring the kami's "magic finish".

Walosi Special = OK. Really, this should be the Pen Special, because I've taken Walosi's idea and twisted the heck out of it. Basically, it's a combination of Tung Oil, Boiled Linseed Oil and Acetone. If you want just Tung Oil, or just Linseed, etc. let me know.

Dan, I need the muffler welded on my Civic. What are you doing weekend after next?

"Except for maybe the fish gut etching method."

Hey Bruise,

Ya got anything in copper that needs a traditional patina??

;) :p hee!

I have a bronzed jock cup from my old football days. :)

Actually I don't have a bronzed jock cup it just sounded good at the time. I don't even know how to play football. :( Even if I did play football I doubt I'd keep a bronzed jock cup around the house.

What's Briwax? Is it as good as hoof goop?

Ya know those green copper roofs?

After the workers finished one up, they'd haul a barrel of beer up and get that patina started.

A two birds with one stone sorta thing.

The fuddy-duddies and tee-totalers collected horse urine and dumped that on.:barf:

I need some trees limbed.
Khuks welcome.
How are you at working 30 ft off the ground?

You are gonna be a very busy man. I'm glad you didn't put a completion date on anything. Your little boy will have his doctorate by the time all our kukris get the famous "PenEdge".

JP, just for the heck of it, let's call it the "Penultimate edge"so everybody expects something extra special, like one of Yvsa's "Full-Body-Shiver Edges"

( Yvsa calls it that because you try it once on your arm hairs and when you try it, your whole body gets goosebumps and you quiver as you very carefully return the blade to it's sheath, )
