Well.....well.....well.....

wow. Got to admit never gotten to that point yet. Guess I got something to work towards.

Since it's going to take a while to get all the convex edges done, I decided to start on the handles.

Here's a pic of the three wood-handled villagers drying out after getting a Pen Special treatment. Each handle was cleaned first with acetone to get down to the nice orangish wood. Then the elixir was rubbed in by hand on each handle.

This kind of mixture is very easy to use.

I set up a fan to help it dry out overnight.

In the meantime, watched an interesting movie - "Himalaya". Anybody else seen it?

That picture of the handles drying is a nice family portrait.

How about "Pen's-Ultimate Edge".

:D :D :D

Pendentive,

Do you do Khukuri work for anybody? I would love to have a the edge convexed on my BAS? What do you charge? Who else on this forum does Khurki work?

Art S. does khuk work - not sure what he charges.

I opened up an offer to specifically rehab some village model khuks. Hopefully, the work I do will be put on a CD which will be made available to everybody. This way - you all can put on your own convex edges.

I'm pretty much loaded up right now - but if you get a copy of the CD, try it and still can't get a convex edge, then you'll probably be able to persuade me to do it. It'll be at least a month before I'm finished with this though.

That said, I've never turned away a project that magically "showed up on my doorstep" with a lil' bit of cash attached to it... :footinmou

Khuks welcome.
How are you at working 30 ft off the ground?

Heck, I hear Pen can juggle. He won't even need a ladder! :D

Can't wait to see what these "Pendefied" khuks look like about the transformation. :D

The khuk work I've done has been warranty work; I have an arrangement with Uncle Bill that makes us both happy (at least he hasn't complained to me about it.)

Several forumites have asked me to do customization for them. The economic realities are such that the disparity of "living wage" in Nepal and the U.S. is so great that a new khuk would cost less than a major customization like a new handle. Costs for attractive handle materials in this country have also skyrocketed.

Re-profiling an edge would be a few minutes' work on a belt grinder and buffer, but the shipping and insurance charges could cost close to $20 round trip.

I recommend that owners wait for Pen's CD and try putting on the convex edge themselves. A few programs on TV will provide background noise and make the time pass faster, but don't let your attention stray too much while working near a sharp edge.

If someone tries and for some reason just can't get a satisfactory edge, I'll be happy to help but would expect the customer to pay for the shipping in both directions.

My hat's off to Pen for his offer to help forumites with their Villagers; he's probably spending much more time than most folks realize.

The avatar he made for me still delights me and I haven't thanked him nearly enough for it.

And yes, I want to see his CD's too.

On the teaser for Bruise, some thirty years ago I used to be able to read binary off the holes punched in half inch paper tape and tell you which slot machine had a drop of xxxxx pounds and ounces of nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollars, and dollar coins, and figure out about how much it came to in real money. But your teaser for bruise could be in Cyrillic for all I know. At least the devanagari would look famillar.

And Bredan, I think the word for Pen is infamous, not legendary.;) :D

I put the mailing address for my lair in with the letter with the shippin' munny.

I'll have to do a test between your convex edge vs. one sharpened by me. :D
