West coast Beckerhead gathering in the PNW!

River-8, I'm out in Skamania often, hiking and what not, we should meet up.

That'd be great!
We meet most Sunday's, Noon at the EOC for sort of a Koffee Klatch Knife Kult thingy...
No real agenda other than getting out in the backcountry (and playing with knives :D ) !

Cheers,

Awesome man. I'm with the Lane Co. GSAR. only 3 years though. Got involved for the training and to get some gear discounts, But when you go out and find someone who wasn't likley coming back on their own, well you don't forget that stuff.

see that spot straight out and a little on the left side of the photo, where the steep freshly logged slope is? Follow that down hill and there is a bowl where the 3 sides of the little vally converge. That spot is called the Amphitheater, we do our shooting classes their, it's awesome cause it's a high backstop on 3 sides. Bring your guns.

Through these trees, let's say 200 yards and up a little hill is the campground.

Picture taken near the fire pit at the campground. It's fairly flat ground and most of the brush has been cleared out. Parking is about 50 feet from the campground.

damn fine spots there! never been further west than eastern Tennessee. i have to get out more lol.

I'm stoked!!! Looks like my kind of country, been an Oregon coast boy for a long time. Looking forward to learn a lot from you guys!

I'm bringing along a nice young man who loves knives. The crazy thing is that he has never shot a gun before (yep I puked in my mouth a little too) this should be a great experience for him! Not as lucky as me with a former Marine for a Father. We'll set him staright though...

Yeah man Bring friends, I meant to say when I posted up pictures that I've invited 5 or 6 people to go. Some have asked me if they could go once I got talking about the gathering.

I talked with Logan about doing a map and compass excercise, for those who want it. He's down with it.

I guess that property is gonna be busy next month, there's our BH gathering, a wilderness medical class and a goat class.

Also I should say motorcycles and quad runners are a NO GO at this event. That's the only restriction I've heard put on this event so far, they had folks cutting trails up there on dirtbikes and it causes a bunch of damage.

The more to learn the better here..really looking forward to the wild edibles part of it, just really good to know...

I'd like to hear from Mingo to see if she's gonna be there and if she'd be willing to spend an hour or two walking around talking about that sort of thing.

Oh, and I did take GPS coordinates at the gate if anyone wants them. I did take notes and mileage for driving direction from I-5.

OK people a quick announcement for those who are attending.

We are going to have a couple contest there at the gathering; prizes, yes. I don't know what they are yet, but I know they'll be great. Talking with Oregon Fal'er about some things for the gathering and we both agree that there are a couple contests that you might want to practice before you get there if you want.

They are; hawk throwing, and trap building.

Also if any of you guys have a hawk bring it along. I've only got an old hatchet that I throw. I'll bring my old throwing knives also, and I can teach someone if they want to learn.

There will be a fire building contest also, the details I'll keep to myself.

I'll also hold a chopping contest. it'll be a timed event.

there will be other small contests and whatnot time permitting.
