Free online, where?

1movieshd.com

It's one of my go-to sites for free movies and tv shows. I don't know how much experience you have with such sites, but they can be a little tricky to navigate. They offer different servers to watch on, some work, some don't, some offer subtitles (closed captioning) some don't, some cause buffering, some don't (I find Hydrax to be the best). And you have to click past a lot of ads to get the movie/tv show to play. And then if you want to hit "pause" or go "full screen" you have to click past a bunch more ads. And sometimes little ads will pop up on screen during the movie that you have to click past.

It sounds complicated, but once you get the hang of it it's easy. And don't pay attention to any of the ads. Like when they say "Your virus protection has expired", because it's just a virus protection company trying to trick you into clicking and going to their site. And ignore (click past) any ads that say you need to download something to see the movie, you don't.

I used to get movies and tv shows on DVD from my local city library, but then awhile back a member here (Hulahound) told me about free movies on Youtube. I rejected the idea at first because I didn't want to watch movies on my little laptop screen. But then I discovered I could connect my laptop to my tv. That opened up a whole new world of online entertainment. I started watching free movies on Youtube, but then went searching for other websites that offer free movies that weren't available on Youtube. That's how I found Tubi, and several others. I haven't been back to the library since.

The western series I mentioned, "The Son" is also on 1movieshd.com (in English). It's also on Tubi, but apparently only in Spanish.

Thx!

Started watching Power of the Dog using Hydrax.

No ads probably bc I got a dozen pop up and ad blockers installed.

But then the f*cking power went out in my house and it was still over 90 degrees outside!

So, I went to the theater, where I am now, to watch Everything Everywhere (starring Michelle Yeoh).

Hopefully, the power will be back on after the show is over.

You're most welcome.

That sucks about losing power. Losing power in the middle of a movie is bad enough, but losing power/air conditioning on a 90 degree night REALLY sucks.

Funny you should mention ad blockers, I just got done watching "Extraction" (Chris Hemsworth version) again on 1movieshd a few minutes ago, and as I watched I wondered if ad blockers would work. I should look into them.

I'm glad that site is working for you, I'd hate to give anyone a bad recommendation. I hope they get your power back on.

Just got back home.

According to the stove clock, the power came back on 1 hr after it went out while I was at the theater.

Movie started right back up where it was interrupted. Watching the rest of it now.

:)

PS: For some reason the audio level is extremely low despite the volume on the movie and my laptop being max'd out. So I hooked up a pair of cheap external speakers to my laptop. The volume is still low but at least I can hear it now, not that there's much dialog to listen to. LOL! ;)

BTW, don't bother going to see "Everything, Everywhere" or spend any time watching it on streaming or DVD.

I'm still trying to process it but it's a really BIZZARE film.

I comes off as a farce for 1st 90% of the film but then ends on a more serious note w/a msg about love, acceptance and family but the impact of that message is muted by all the craziness that came before.

In hindsight part of the craziness in the film can be attributed to the "Inside Out" (the animated film about the growing pains experienced by a teenage girl) type of emotions of the daughter in the film. Michelle Yeoh plays the mother in a role that IMO is really out of character for her.

Bottomline, it's a "thumbs down" for me.

yesmovies.ag is a good one. Same kind of server setup as killgars. Just so you folks know, any site where you can watch new releases for free is going to be an "illegal" site. They generally-or at least I've never heard of it- don't go after viewers but don't be surprised if the site just vanishes someday. Don't worry, for every one that goes down 3 more pop up. If you already have a VPN it's probably a good idea to use that while on those sites but like I said, I've never heard of viewers getting in trouble. Kind of like megaupload, they never went after the users, just Kimdotcom.

Just finished "Power of the Dog" and just started watching "Top Gun: Maverick" on 1movieshd too.

I know the site is "unauthorized" and the "quality" of the audio/video is similar to that of the pirated DVDs that I've watched in the past -- ie., the A/V s*cks" -- but it's good enough til the legit DVD comes out in 3-4 months (which is how I watch 99.9% of the films that I watch).

Steaming the films on Brave (which has built in blockers) w/Nord VPN. Also running Privacy Badger, Trocker and uBlock for additional tracker blocking.

If I was really paranoid, I could watch it in a private window using Tor but I think the above is enough to protect my privacy online, which is something that I'm always vigilant about.

So, here's my take on "Power of the Dog."

NTUxMDguanBn

This movie is only a "western" in the sense that it's set in the west on a cattle ranch but it's really a movie about the personalities involved and their motives. So, until you care about what's going on w/these characters, it's easy to dismss the film as boring and of no merit.

That said, overall, I liked it and I can see why it was nominated for an Oscar for "Best Picture."

The cinematography and the sound track was excellent. There wasn't much dialog but the acting was very good at conveying the characters' emotions, even if the direction was sometimes confusing or inexplicable until later developments clarified what was going on.

Worth the time to watch it if you like films that focus on the "interpersonal" and the complexity of human emotions. But, there is a bit of "Brokeback Mountain" to this film and, if such themes bother you, this probably is NOT the movie for you.

SPOILERS AHEAD!

Phil and George are brothers who own/run a big ranch. Phil presents as a "real" cowboy/man and George as more gentrified. Phil dominates George and runs the ranch. George manages the business and wants to move up in social status which Phil wants no part of.

George meets and marries a widow named Rose, who also has a son. Phil immediately sees Rose as a threat to his relationship w/his brother and his control over the ranch. So, he demeans and belittles her, drivng her to drink, which he uses as a tool to try to break up Rose and George. Phil also dislikes Peter, Rose's son, but his relationship w/Peter changes over time.

Initially, he mistreats Peter because he appears weak and effeminate (quiet and introverted) but belittling Peter is also a way for him to do more damage to Rose. However, based on an obvious homoerotic subtext, the relationship between Phil and Peter changes and, while they do not have any sex, at least none that's shown, they share certain intimacies and secrets and Phil comes to have so much affection for Phil that he becomes his protector, teaches him to ride a horse and offers to braid a lasso for him out of cowhide but Peter's feelings for Phil are more complex.

According to Wiki and other sources, Peter was a medical student which is meant to explain why he carries a scapel and latex gloves w/him in his pack but how many medical students do that? Not many, I think.

In any event, one day while Peter is out riding alone he finds a dead cow that we later learn died of anthrax. Not sure if Peter already knows this or not. How would he w/o some way of testing the hide for disease? But, the cow dies for some reason and would be the source of some potentially deadly pathogens. So, he puts on his gloves, takes out his scalpel and cuts off some of the cow's hide, which he later gives to Phil to complete the lasso that Phil is making for him which ultimately causes Phil's death.

It is unclear at which point Peter decided to kill Phil but it seems obvious that's what he decided to do; apparently because of Phil's mistreatment of his mother and the negative effect it was having on her relationship w/George. We understand this when, in the final scene, Peter is standing alone at a window and watches his mother and George kiss in front of the house after burying Phil. So, with Phil dead, Peter wins and at least he believes that their lives now will be better all around.

It is also unclear whether Peter ever had any sexual feelings toward Phil or if Peter was just using Phil's feelings for him against Phil so that Peter could gain Phil's trust and then cause his death. On the other hand, there is no doubt that Phil had great affection for Peter. Phil's offer to make a a lasso for Peter was symbolic of that affection.

Phil became really distraught when Rose gave away some hides that were to be burned but the main reason he was upset was because he didn't have enough hide to finish the lasso for Peter w/o a least some of those hides.

This is where Peter offers to give Phil the anthrax laced hides to complete the lasso which Phil views as an act of affection, not realizing Peter's evil intent.

There's no way for Peter to have known that his mother was going to give away the hides, so he must have had the intention to give the infected hides to Peter before that occured. Phil had cut his hand ealier looking for a rabbit in a pile of wood and then soaked the infected hide in tanning solution which he stirred w/his cut hand as Peter blithely watched and said nothing as he did that.

Phil's feelings for Peter were demonstrated again when he urgently searched for Phil to give him the lasso that he finished, just before he was being driven to the doctor by his brother to treat his illness before he died. Peter was intentionally avoiding him at that moment which speaks volumes about his feelings about Phil.

So, if Peter had any affection for Phil, it was not equal to his love for his mother.

As far as the volume, you could try a different server. I've never had that issue.

I'll be sure to read up on "Everything,Everywhere" before investing my time into watching it. Thanks for the heads-up :)

You're quite right about sites disappearing or going inactive. My #1 go-to site used to be uwatchfree., but then it just disappeared. So I've learned that when I see a movie that interests me to watch it soon before it disappears.

And I don't believe there is any way to go after or punish people for watching the content on a public website. Maybe downloading, but I don't download stuff, I just watch it in real time.

I'm going to take a look at yesmovies.ag. It's good to be aware of a variety of sites because some have content that others don't. For example, m4uhd.tv has the documentary about the making of "Apocalypse Now", which can be very hard to find ("Hearts of Darkness", it's still there, I just checked). They were also the ONLY site I could find that had "Exposure" (Peter Coyote knife movie), but now it's gone. I guess whoever owns the rights to that movie is pretty diligent about people not getting to watch it for free. But I watched it before they did 😁, hadn't seen it in decades.

Sometimes (I'd say rarely) the new, big movies start out as classic bootlegs (recorded on phones/cameras. blurry, shaky, etc), I don't watch those because eventually someone will upload the actual theatrical version. "The Batman" is a recent example, for awhile all I saw on various sites were the same crappy bootleg version, but I kept checking every now and then and eventually the good version was there.

I'm going through this now with "The Northman". But I'm patient. :)

As far as "Power of the Dog", my interpretation is that it was a movie about repressed homosexuality and toxic-masculinity. And although I got the sense that Mrs. Campion was intentionally trying to make what I'll call an "anti-western", I have nothing personally against such movies. It's just not what I'm looking for when I sit down to watch a two hour "western". But, as always, to each their own. We all have our own ways of interpreting movies, and just like personal taste, I don't believe anyone's personal interpretation can ever be wrong. :)

EDIT: I just noticed that two movies on 1movieshd that had been crappy bootlegs that I've been waiting on are now the real deal- "The Northman", and a new Liam Neeson movie "Memory" (he plays an assassin, imagine that 😁 ).

Missouri breaks, one of the best westerns:
Missouri_breaks_movie_poster.jpg

Also for the folks with Fire TV (worth every penny), Peacock streams all seasons of Yellowstone (big fan),
alone with some other good series.

Oh, and since you guys mentioned not only westerns (The Extraction), few really good movies - Black Hat and Wind River, also an old one - The International.

Remarkable that "Deadwood" is not mentioned here till sofar.... Or "Warrior"........

It was obvious that the copy of Maverick that I watched was a video taken during a performance of the show (apparently in Italy because there were subtitles in Italian). You could also hear audience laugther (not a laugh track) at certain moments during the film and also hear the rustling of candy(?) paper.

The video prirate must have been obstructing the mic on the phone (or other device) being used to record the movie because during the end credits all of a sudden the sound level increased dramatically. The video quality of Maverick was also often blurred or distorted.

The AV for "Power of the Dog" was much better than for "Top Gun: Maverick" which I attribute to a better source. While the audio in "Power of the Dog" was also very low, the film quality was excellent; no blurring or distortion.

So, it's just "catch as catch can" as far as these pirated films go. 🤷‍♂️

1movieshd.com

It's one of my go-to sites for free movies and tv shows.

PS: Thanks again for providing this information!

It's now going to permit me to view all of the movies nominated for "Best Picture" at this year's Academy Awards ceremony that I have not yet seen.

In addition to "Power of the Dog," I can now "catch up" by also watching "Coda," "Drive My Car" and "Don't Look Up" that I still haven't seen from the list of nominees which included:

Belfast
Coda
Don't Look Up
Drive My Car
Dune
King Richard
Licorice Pizza
Nightmare Alley
Power Of The Dog
West Side Story

You're welcome. I'm happy to do it.

I was on there last night, just browsing around, sometimes I search for specific movies or shows, other times I just browse to see what's new or to see what obscure or unknown to me stuff I might find. And as I was browsing and looking at the newest stuff and the overall VAST selection, I couldn't help but say to myself "Man, this is so AWESOME!".

I was also happy to see that two movies I was waiting on that were recently crappy bootlegs had been replaced with the god versions ("The Northman", "Memory").

I saw "Nightmare Alley". I don't remember which site it was on but that was another one that started out as a crappy bootleg (by the way, all the crappy bootlegs I've come across had an ad for some type of gambling website embedded in the actual movie. That's one of the ways I know right off it's a bootleg). But I waited and it wasn't long before the good version was available.

I saw "Dune" as well. In fact, that was the second movie I saw on one of these free movie sites (the first was "Zulu" on Tubi, a movie I was specifically looking for). After finding Tubi I went looking for other sites. I found one (I forget which one, might have been 1movieshd.), and I saw a listing for the new "Dune", which I really wanted to see. The movie had not even been released yet in theaters, so I thought that either it was just the trailer, or it was the 1984 David Lynch version and they had mistakenly used the images from the new Dune to advertise it (or that it was an intentional attempt at deception). So I wasn't going to click on it, but out of curiosity I did.

So I click on it, and click play, and it starts, and I notice right off that it's not the 1984 Dune, and it's wide-screen in high-def clarity, so I'm thinking trailer. Then I look down at the time display and saw that it said 2 hours 35 minutes. I said to myself "Holy crap! is this the actual movie?!", and as the movie started I realized "Holy crap! This IS the actual movie!!".😁

I wasn't planning on sitting down and watching a 2+ hour movie, but I was concerned that if I turned it off that it wouldn't be there later. So I sat down and watched the new "Dune" out of concern if I didn't I would lose it. Unfortunately I didn't like it, it actually made me appreciate the Lynch version even more (although I have issues with that version), but I saw it. By the way, in case you didn't know, it's just part one. It's a two-part movie. Part two hasn't been made yet.

Anyways, as someone who likes movies, and is always looking for entertainment, I'm happy to have these sites, and I'm happy to share about them. I thought the library was awesome (and it was), but this is WAY better. Thanks to H Houlahound for turning me on to free movies online. :)

I wasn't planning on sitting down and watching a 2+ hour movie, but it was like the episode of "Friends" where Joey and Chandler discover that they were getting a porn channel for free on their cable tv, and they were afraid if they turned it off or changed the channel they would lose it forever. So I sat down and watched the new "Dune" out of concern if I didn't I would lose it. Hey Houlahound. It was in this thread that you told me about free movies on Youtube- https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/can-anyone-identify-this-movie.1785979/

Thanks again. You introduced me to a vast variety of online entertainment, all from the convenience of my laptop. I had pretty much exhausted the selection at the library, and I wasn't exactly thrilled to go there with Covid spreading around. Between your recommendation, and a cable I got from Walmart to connect my laptop to my tv, I now have a never ending abundance of stuff to watch. I've got a list of stuff to get to, and it keeps growing. :)
