Whacha Been Up To......

Very cool! I see overlays and inlays in your future!
could be, Dave, but this stuff seems a little soft for that application I think. Definitely going to be some nicely lined sheaths for sure. Almost all this stuff was shirts at some point, so it's going to be perfect as lining material.
In fact, I've got an apron I'm working on made from an old duck cotton military duffel bag which I'ma line with some of this buttery suede. It'll be hefty but pretty cut resistant, (hopefully). I'm also researching how to make a glove pattern with the idea that I'll make myself some deluxe shop gloves.
Some of the small scraps I've used to clean up some knives prior to glue up, (suede don't leave lint) and for applying oil to wood.

Good deal. Never made any gloves.

I just got the score of a lifetime! My mom ran into the textiles teacher from our local highschool at the fabric shop the other day, told her I do some leather work. Teacher says, hey I inherited a bag of leather, he can have it if he wants. So, I got her number from mom, contacted her and picked this bag up at the high school the other day

just finished organizing it yesterday. It's all garment leather- a bunch of shirts, vests etc completely and carefully broken down into usable pieces. The first thing I'ma make is a shop apron which I've been putting off way too long. Then maybe a pair of gloves. Anyway, I'm super stoked to have an inventory of high end leather to work with!
[/QUgreat...Fantastic work as !!!👌

Love that buffalo leather...Just looks great

Those look great! We used that buff on the right in a reddish color for a while for belts. Kinda made a lil more dressy belt than the reg water buff. Nichole has been busy too:

Those look great !!!!!!!

Once I add a few more items to my leather work arsenal ,I’d like to start building more bags.

ATTENTION Baxtrom: I did not see this mentioned in the previous posts. Using the drill press/awl method for punching stitching holes will go much better and easier if you will lubricate the awl by sticking the point into a cake of Bee's Wax or Paraffin wax every three or four punches. The difference in the ease of penetration and extraction of the awl is amazing.

A Tote Nichole just finished. She called it the "Army Mother's Tote." She'd been an Army mother for the last 7 years but not since June. Anyhoo it sold overnight.

And here's why she called it that. The lining is a light canvas in a camo pattern:

Looks like it’s been busy times on the ranch for you two. Amazing work as always. I really like the camo lining on the bag. I’m glad someone picked up the ironwood hunter. I’m not in the market now, but it was getting pretty hard to resist. I love seeing all the work coming out of Horsewright. Thanks for posting.

Thank you sir for the very kind words! Yeah always busy this time of year of course. That was a very nice knife, an exceptional piece of ironwood. She's working on another one with the camo lining. You are welcome.

Finishing off the sheaths for a batch of 12 knives. Did these in my spare time (actually while the glue was drying on the knives).
