If you've ever wondered why we use a powered edge burnisher, consider this. Each set of reins is 7' 6" That is 150 ft of burnishing to do. 300 ft of edging, gotta keep that edger sharp!

A good friend of ours passed away some years back. These purses were made for his two daughters from a pair of his boots:

The buckle can be interchangeable as long as they are similar in size.

To those who have been watching since I first joined this forum, yall have seen different knives and sheath. I have tried to create my own style to a point while immortalizing the basic shapes of others into my works. To cpirtle cpirtle heres to many years talking and learning from you. I will indeed adopt my own style, but with this run of sheaths, I used some of his look. I appreciate our conversation. He is the real deal.

Played a bit with different sized needles and nylon and poly threads this weekend. 23 and 24 are OK with 207 threads, but I keep getting missed stitches on the bobbin thread randomly. It would work for 5-12 stitches and then miss a few and the shuttle would bind up and then snap back. Super frustrating, but I learned how to adjust the presser foot a bit more.

Went back to the 25 needle and the nylon thread and it did nice for a bit and then started acting up, so I just used the machine and 25 needle as my punch/awl and then hand saddle stitches with some 1mm flat waved thread. I used the chisels to punch the belt loop and hand sewed that as well. Also did a skived welt as well to give me more room at the handle end.

Your ashtray reminds me of when I was working down Mexico they would bring a similar bowl to make fresh salsa right at the table, it was a coarse surface that helped to create the salsa. I forgot the name of the setup but it certainly looks like it could have been used for it.

Edited to add I looked it up and it’s called
MOLCAJETE & PESTLE

Yep thats what it is a molcajete. We’ve got a couple here inside the house we use for their normal use and I’m not sure how that other one ended up in the shop. Its been out there a long time. They’re made out of volcanic stone. Around here they are used for gucamole.

Beautiful work!

And I tinkerered with the Cub a bit more (over 2 hours!), re timed it, adjusted the tension and now I can use a 24 needle and 207 bonded Nylon pretty well. A little more fine tuning and tweaking to go, but it's much more consistent now! Getting more familiar with how it works, how to get it in time better, how the bobbin tension effects the upper thread tension, etc!

Frustrating and exhausting, but hopefully I will come out of this knowing a lot more about the sewing machine and what it's doing!

Did 3 layers and a skived welt to get to 4 layers on this test piece. It seemed to be off when the welt tapered from 3 to 4 layers, so I tweaked the tension a bit. 24 LL needle and 207 bonded poly. PXL_20260707_002601538.jpgPXL_20260707_002610514.jpgPXL_20260707_002616278.jpg

This one was OK on the inner row, but I could see the knots peeking and the welt threw it off before I adjusted it for the above test:

Outer row was practicing punching with 25 needle and using 1mm flat waxed thread saddle stitch by hand.
