Wharncliffe isn't my favourite, but it is pretty usefull.
Sort of half way between a regular upswept edge and a hawkbill.
I'm looking forward to the Spyderco Centofante wharncliffe, out in 2006 I believe.

Hey thanks Garth....

wow, I didn't expect it to be so expensive.. thank you though..

Wharncliffes are my favorite too. My EDC is a handmade ATS34 by Russ Milligan, not fancy, just a very useful knife.

Just got a BM 921 Monday. Only carried it to work once so far but I like it a lot. I like the small secondary blade for detail work.

I'm okay with wharncliffes, but if I need the tip, I'd rather compromise and go with a reverse tanto with just a little belly. I just don't really like how it feels when I slice with a wharncliffe...if it's near to the table/desk, my fingers don't have much room to get close enough to it.

I'm all about the recurves.

When I was designing my first custom made folder, to be used as an EDC.
The Wharncliff was the blade shape I decided on. I have never been sorry with the choice.
This knife was designed by me and executed by Art Washburn.

The Spyderco/Kiwi has what I would call a modified wharnie and makes an excellent EDC knife for work.

That's why I like dropped edges. I happen to strongly dislike recurves.

I like wharnies. Four of my main carries are wharncliffe/semi-wharncliffe: 921, 440, AG Russell Featherlite and the Bark River OMF.

My EDC is a custom Wharncliffe by Russ Milligan. ATS-34 steel, carbon fiber scales, fileworked spine - not real fancy, a utilitarian pocket knife. I carry others occasionally, but as others have said, it's the one I keep coming back to.

While Wharnies aren't exactly my one and only favorite blade shape, I do find them quite useful.

Here's my custom Wharncliffe made by Martin Baytchev:

Blued O-1 steel, blue/gray Micarta scales.

I don't get why tantos aren't as popular as wharncliffs since the tanto is the same thing to me, with a modified tip. You still get that straight edge and the "triangle of doom" acts like the tip of a wharncliff

I have been carrying my Cento 4 for weeks now, and I can safely say that I am in love!

I love wharncliffe-design blades. Several of my EDCs are wharncliffe or modified-wharncliffe designs:

BM 425 Gravitator
BM 921 Switchback
Kershaw Leek
Spyderco Ronin

One of the reasons I like wharncliffe edges so much is that the blade is all belly, and while similar to Americanized tantos in this regard there is only 1 edge to sharpen.

The only edge I personally think supercedes a wharncliffe as far as slicing is concerned is a recurve.
