What’s the smallest EDC knife you can get away with? Fixed or folding are fine.

That's why I provide sheaths with my neck knives.

Thank you!
Oh I don't doubt it at all.
What I meant is that even the most compact taco sheath takes some decent room in a pocket or iwb because of the eyelets and stuff.

Since I'm at it, when I want to go through the inconveniences of carrying a fixed blade as edc I want at least something that is 3/3.5 inches, any shorter and I start losing the advantages of having a fixed blade over a folder, like the ability to baton at least wrist thick logs and in general handling heavy cutting chores and hard use.

One of the advantages of fixies is also the ability to do food prep without having stuff getting into the pivot and lock area, and honestly if I go under 3" the knife is too small to handle basic cooking tasks effectively anyway.

I do reckon however that there are some knives like the Brisa I posted that are kinda fun to carry in spite of the smaller size, and I do carry them from time to time without trying to rationalize about it too much.

My Williams SZM003 represents my ideal size/weight standard for a fixed blade EDC: 3.5" blade, 3.5 ounces and a very slim sheath that is great for static line carry.

Came back in to post just this. And pretty much like the Hold Out, it's also very much of a "big EDC knife enabler", and it's under 30 grams! If only they made a flatter, thinner handle one, in order to print less in the pocket...obviously not possible because the rotoblock would be no longer viable, but still...

Good observation. I thin out all the Opinels that I intend to carry. I’m not posting photos right now, or I would show you, but if you search back Opinel threads, you will find a ton of pics and discussion, maybe with some good ideas.

The Virobloc is not really a barrier to carrying an Opinel. The problem lies primarily with the flared pommel, and to a lesser degree with the round barrel handle. Some 80-grit or a whittling knife will turn your Opinel into a real pocket knife.

For my EDC I can be fine with a Victorinox SAK 91mm and a Native 5.
Under these size I am usually not comfortable and not comfortable for me to use.
the CIVIVI baby banter is an exception. The ergonomics work for me on this small knife, but for sure less polyvalent and less comfortable than my native 5

I have slightly smaller knives, but I like this one a lot. It's flat, small, very light, strong as heck, and is a great little slicer with lots of room on the handle for me me to hang onto; oh, and it fits into the fifth pocket of my jeans no problem. Maybe one of these days I'll get one in S35VN because they fixed the unsharpened bit near the sharpening choil on that version.

+1 for making me look up "polyvalent"

Me personally, I like me some Esee Izula, Mora Eldris, and the Para 3. I’m perfectly happy with those. What works for you?

I could make do with a SAK probably, but I prefer carrying the sharp boys mentioned above. Perfect blend of want and need

In the early 1980s I worked in the Middle East out on drilling rigs as a contractor to Aramco, in the field for weeks at a time. My EDC kit back then was a Buck 110 in a belt pouch and an SAK in mt pocket . . . .a camp knife much like a Boy Scout knife.

Later on in life, I worked in a hospital setting doing diagnostic imaging. The Buck was too big and I found the SAK too limited. The first Leathermen tools were just coming out. Better in some ways than an SAK, but not really convenient. When the Wave multitools were introduced, that became my EDC. As newer versions were devoted I carried them. Today, my EDC is a Wave Plus. It does what I want and carries well.

Last year, I splurged on a pre owned William Henry from e-bay. . . . their "B30 Outback". A gem of a gent's knife it is with a subtlety patterned Damascus blade and Iron wood scales in a titanium button-locking frame . . .. But it is just that much too small for my liking.

I like the Peanut, but sometimes that is too small. Ideally I liked the Opinel #6 or I like the size of a Case tear drop folder. I really like small fixies, j have a MGM pocket tango Nessmuk, needs to use it more, the handle was a little small but the lanyard helps with grip.

Small? okay. Meet "Little Finger." Tiny but mighty, ground from CPM S110V. Blade is only 2.25 inches overall length is 5.25 inches. Riding in a pocket clip sheath. Easy to throw in your pocket on your way out the door.

The wife and I have a Victorinox classic sd in alox on my keychain.

Same here. The classic does most of what I need as far as opening meal, Amazon boxes, jute twine that I use for a lot of stuff, as well as keeping my nails trimmed and smoothed. If I need more knife my Buck 102 woodsman is my fishing/camping/woodswalking knife. A Leatherman squirt is my other daily carry. It has a knife blade the same length as the classic, but sturdier.

If I need a dirty work knife, theres a folding utility knife around. A Stanley in the shop, a folding Husky in the car glove box.

It is indeed. The classic pen blade operates like a surgeon's scalpel and is just as sharp.
I like the alox knives because they can handle life on a keychain whereas the cellidor scales are known to crack and suffer more damage from being rough-housed by the other keys.
Whatever else im carrying i have made it a point to always have a classic on me as well
