What’s your favorite large folder with 4 inch or greater blade?

Among mega folders, here are my favorites :
  1. Cold Steel 4-Max - 4" CPM-20CV Tri-ad Lock
  2. Spyderco Subvert - 4.14" S30V Liner Lock
  3. Cold Steel Espada XL - 7.5" S35VN Tri-ad Lock. A beast of a folding knife that can supposedly hold 600 lb of free hanging weight !!
  4. TOPS BOB Fieldcraft - 4.38" 1095 High Carbon Steel Liner Lock. TOPS Knives' first entry into folding knives.
Cold Steel dominates this segment of folding knives. Among these set, I have the 4-Max in my personal collection and have my eyes on Subvert.

My favorite 4” folder is the ProTech TR4. Not sure how good it’d be for skinning, though.

I might of found a used one! Thanks for the recommendation!

I do like that Subvert! And the 4max too (although they are both a bit heavy and bulky in the pocket, they are workhorses on a carcass!

Gotta be the Aftermath Bowie for me, always liked it better than the straight handle Camillus DDRs:D The Apogee D/A is just under 4", so ignore that;)

I was also looking for folder for hunting a few years back. Although, more as a backup to my fixed blade, than a primary knife.
Even though I consider myself weight conscious, I do not mind carrying two pieces of such an important device, and my fixed blade is usually a 2.5" Fällkniven WM-1, so I'm not carrying a terribly lot of knife anyway.
I looked at all the usual suspects, e.g. Cold Steel, Hinderer etc. but in the end I found that I was putting too much weight on properties that was less important IRL.
After some back and forth I concluded that the perfect, or close to perfect, knife was already in my collection in the form of the CRK Sebenza.
With all the blood and dirt such a knife is exposed to, the simple construction and easy to maintain Sebenza is just one of the most worry free knives to have around in the field.
From such a perspective, I think even the CRKTs with field strip technology is worth a look. I haven't owned a CRKT before, so I can't speak too their quality or suitability, but it's an interesting concept.
The homefront seems to be available in a Limited edition M390 version at the moment:

I love large folders so the collection goes like this:
Cold Steel XL Espada with 7.5 in blade - Actually the first folder I found that really is too big to carry
Cold Steel Rajah II, 6 " blade Cold Steel Luzon 6" blade , XL Vaquaro Grande, 6" Blade Cold Steel Frenzy 5.5" blade Spydero Tantaka 5" Blade Camillus Maxx 5.5" SOG Pentagon Elite 5" and REKAT SIFU 5.5 Blade and my FAVORITE :) The Rekat Sifu Bladeforums edition 1-50 with the Red G10 handles and black blade ....

I only have a Recon 1 now that is listed at 4" or more.

I had a Spyderco Police but even that was too big for my 2xl gloved paws. I sold it.

I've had the CS 4 Max Scout in my cart a few times. Even that might be a little big for me given the length of the handle and width of the knife with blade closed.
I've looked at the Spyderco Military but that is admittedly over my self imposed budget for a knife. I can live without it.

My sweet spot is 3.5" - 3.8". The Spyderco Endura, CS Ultimate Hunter & Recon 1, Ontario Rat 1, and BM Rift are a few of my favorites.

I didn't read this whole thread. Spent the past decade in the Yukon. Loads of bush time. I carried a regular Buck 110 when I am out in the Bush. Carried in the pocket with a hankercheif stuff on top. Never had it fall out using this method. Recently switched to Buck 110 LT Smokejumper with a CPM154 blade that was an SFO though a dealer. Very capable, robust and high value knife. The lock back design ed simple and easy to clean when covered in fat, hair and blood. The blade opens a d closes easily with gloves or numb fingers. Excellent warranty and easily replaceable if it goes over the side of the boat. An excellent bush blade.

EDIT: I do want to add, after reading more of this thread that some people are offering some terrible suggestions for a do all wilderness folding knife. A moose isn't like a deer. You can't just ring it and pull down. The hide on the shoulders can be 3/4" thick. It needs to be cut off. A Spyderco Military, while an amazing knife in it's own way, would be very poor for this job. So would the Native Cheif. Excellent for utility and food prep tasks, very poor for game with the long, fairly flat belly. Don't even get me started on those cleaver style blades. Some are suggesting the Crooked River. I had one and loved it with one caveat. That Axis lock mechanism will be clogged up with fat, hair and meaty bits in short order. Though the geometry would make a great large folding hunting knife.

OP... if you are still around I have a strong suggestion. Carrying a folding knife on your person and a fixed bladeknife in the pack is a very common practice here. Get a fixed blade that sits in your pack that excels at meat and food prep. Then Carry whatever fun folder you want. A boning knife I have found skins moose with the best of them and works well enough for filleting fish. Or a Victorinox Lamb Skinner works well too and weighs almost nothing.
