What 8-9.5" INFI?

+1  This is quite possibly the best feeling Busse in hand that I have ever handled. Also, the B11, while I know is above to your top end is very light for it's length but has phenomenal chopping power! Don't count either of these until you've felt them I guess is my point.

Unless they have a show in or around the Lehigh Valley/Easton, PA...I'm not going to get that chance.

So where are you going to get the chance to handle the other Busse's you are wondering about??? :p :D

I think the BWMLE is way to overlooked is my point. Seriously, give it a look. Especially the variants they had with different length blades.

Do you want a THICK knife that chops or a thinner stock knife? That would help narrow it more.

How's the BWMLE compare to the BWMCG? If you've had the chance to try both

I never said I'd get to handle them. That is my point, you can't exactly hop on over to Wal-Mart and ask to see one.

I'd say middle of the road maybe .30 at the most. My main concern is the length. I don't want a machete length knife.

As far as Busses go, .30" is more to the thicker side than the "middle of the road." It probably depends on the knife, though...

Gary, the CG were full convex with a secondary edge bevel.

EMT,

I don't know what you condsider machete, but I consider it 18". Personal preference either way.

In the range you listed I would try to find a SHSH Variant.

I will see if I can dig up a pic of mine later.

Its .22" thick. My favorite for a Busse.

I'm sure your going to get more suggestions. I'm with you. I spent a lot of money to get to the ones I like the best. Like you I don't get to shows.

You could also look at the competition finish BWM.

You are right. I was mistaken with that measurement. My ESEE-5 is .25 and THAT is pushing it so thinner.

I never sat down and figured it out but my CS Kukri comes to just above my knee when carrying it. Now that has a 12" blade but I can take down 5-6" thick pieces of wood/trees/branches easily with it. For pure chopping hat is what I'm reaching for. But that comes just above the knee when carrying it.

With the current knife I'm looking for I want to be able to take down 3-4" pieces easily as well as slice, shave tinder, etc. So basically a BJ with more chopping ability.

Both the Basic and even more SHBM look like they are options here. But that BWM in the length shown seems a tad too long for the finer work. I can't say for sure though as I have no experience with any of them.

Thanks! :)

The main candidates are NMSFNO, SAR 8 or a FSH for easy exchange finds ... or a Basic 9 if you want to wait ... but a Basic 8 could be out by then.

The BWM LE is better at chopping than the above and feels great in hand ... the NMSFNO also feels good too. Other Bussekin blades such as the DFLE or the SR9 are worth considering ...

The DSSF is like a larger Boss Jack .... may be ideal for you.... or the SAR 8 if you need something bigger.

FSH...Fusion Straight Handle? If a LBS of that comes out...does the lighter weight take away from it's chopping ability? I'm thinking not because the weight loss is in the handle unless they do a fuller on that one as well.

As far as the kins, I'd like to stay with INFI and I know SOME do but not most.

Thanks

Maybe a DSSF or DSF ? long enough for some decent chopping but not a machete be any description. I great feeling handle and a nice longer blade but handles well for a good size blade.

Fusion Steel Heart. There are a few variations of it--that one, the HHFSH (Heavy Heart), and the HOGFSH (Heavy Ordnance Grade). I forget what they mean exactly, but I think both are thicker and one of them has a saber grind and the other a full-flat grind.

Listening to what you have said ... the best option seems to be a SAR 8 ... here is a pic ...

P1010510.jpg

It has an 8 inch blade which is not too deep ... so resembles an oversize Boss Jack and is lighter for it ... but it still chops really well. It carries well to.

Yeah Peter, that SAR series has really made me drool ever since I saw it a few months back. I didn't know how they chopped though. Definitely want one. Did I read they are bringing out another SAR 8 though or was that just the Basic 8?

Thanks

-Emt1581

The Basic 8 is coming ... they might do a lighter handled version of the SAR 8 but as to how these stand up to vibration from chopping I could'nt say ... the normal SAR 8 is good though. I did a comparison post on it a while back and it chopped fine ...

Beautiful blade to! I just emailed Lexi to see if they could make me the DC SAR 8 (SE) with Black Canvas grips they have advertised in the price list thread. That'd be a great compliment to my BJ. Same finish and grips to! :)

Now someone come along and burst my bubble telling me I won't be able to have one made...

-Emt1581

With a modern SAR 8 blank being likely available I suspect they can help:thumbup: If not buy a SAR 8 like mine on the exchange and send it in to have the finish DC and the grips changed. They definately change grips and re-do finishes ...

Mike had a black canvas doublecut sar8 at the last Indy 1500 gunshow, you may want to message him and see if he still has it.

I agree with barnes...it seems that you really like the BJ...but are looking for a little more...DSF, DSF, DSF!!! 8" blade...0.23" thick, relatively light weight for packing (about 14 oz), Great utility outdoor blade for SURE. it will not perform as well as others at certain tasks...but its a jack of all trades. I've never handled the SAR 8...but that looks like a real winner as well!!!
