What about knives/knife people just makes you laugh?

Though I agree that language is slowly deteriorating, "EDC" is the least of our worries. I use the term loosely - it can adopt a variety of meanings and I just like the expression. Call me lazy but I think you are being pedantic ;)

This guy gets it - I would buy you a beer if I could!

SMATCHET!!!

Sorry, just wanted to try that out. Yes. I am probably being pedantic.

We think our knife is dull, anticipating getting home an touching up the edge. Before we get a chance to touch it up, some one borrows it and says "WOW! That's so **@#$ sharp!"

These are sooo funny. Plus, I know some guys like your describing. Extreme blade profiles are in vogue. DM

I've seen some interesting tests for sharpness from people borrowing my knives. Always they follow up with "can you close this?". A pet peeve of mine that makes me facepalm is when knife reviewers refer to every knife as little when they aren't describing its size (I.e. "This little knife has a 5.3" blade"). Not all knives are "little"!

Dark Ops knives makes me smile sometimes. I also kinda think certain steelsnobs are funny. Dissing cheaper steel when they have no experience using them.

The obsession with extreme corrosion resistance. It boggles my mind that any stainless blade does offer enough corrosion resistance for some guys.

"I am planning on going to the beach this summer and there is the possibility that my knife might get wet. I'm not sure my VG-10 blade is up to the task."

What makes me laugh is other knife people who think a SAK is all the knife you need and they even make threads about it.

Just because in your own little world that is all you need doesn't mean it's all of what everybody else needs. Different people have different lifestyles and occupations that need sturdier blades than a SAK.

haha, I was once that guy. I laugh looking back at myself.

I always love when someone asks me "how much did you spend on that knife" shortly followed by "I'd never spend that on a knife"...

Which I respond:

I never asked what you would spend on a knife, so why do I give a s**t!?!? Now go council someone else's financial budget you punk b***h...

I feel the same way. Any knife I carry in my bunker gear while sweating gets rust spots. Doesn't matter what steel it is. All I do is take a brush and CLP and it comes right off. I used to have to do the same the same thing to my M16, it's all part of maintaining your tool. Every steel will rust/oxidize at some point.

What makes me laugh is that a couple of hundred years ago our ancestors explored and built this country using a few very basic edged tools. They didn't have a wide variety of knives in the kind quantities we own today. The steel they were using was likely inferior to the stuff we use today in even the cheapest of knives and there were no plastic handles or sheaths nor corrosion proof stainless steels. They didn't even have central air conditioning to keep their tools nice and fresh looking. I wonder what they would think of how much effort their decendents put into finding magical tools, just so they can open a few pieces of mail. I would bet they would be laughing at all of us. They would tell us to ignore the rust that the work will knock it off; they would advise us to learn to sharpen our tools; and they would suggest that if we were going to actually cut something, to drop that whopper of a knife and use something that can actually make the cut.

I like and use the term "EDC". It hurts my brain when it gets used incorrectly, though. "EDC carry" is "every day carry carry".

Same thing with "LCD display" or "OSB board." Liquid Crystal Display display? Oriented Strand Board board? :D

Actually, rather than laugh at us, I bet they'd happily take the results from our search for magical tools, and go out there to explore using them. :)
They'd gladly take a tough, rust resistant, high edge retention knife, along with a small sharpener in the sheath.

Just because they did fine with what they had does not mean they wouldn't happily use what we have.
We should just enjoy what we have, which ideally (to me) involves using them when we get the chance.
I say take their resilient attitude and combine it with our modern, cool, magical tools.

Hey, I love my cliphanger. One of my few FFG's and slices wonderfully (imagine that). Lost the clip eons ago and come to think of it the idea didnt really work very well. Still a quick release/retention device IS a holy grail. I guess we just have to admit we here are all a little weird in our own way-viva la difference!

Holy shit - he DOES exist!!!!

I've been saying for years the Cliphanger was the worst smoking turd of a knife ever designed, ever!.... But, I've also said there is somebody, somewhere out there who likes em.... And you not only were willing to admit you like yours, you love it! Awesome! Never thought I'd see the day!

Which is exactly why you see native peoples around the world with t-shirts from modern contact. They make do with what they have and are very good with them, but they will take what they can get. Survival.

Glad to see this board reached so many replies. Try not to sound too mean guys, this was just for fun. :)

People who go on vendettas against a company due to a fault in a hundred dollar knife that they need a magnifying attachment to see and show the forum. Naturally anyone who tries to bring common sense into the discussion is immediately attacked as a "fan boy". In addition there is always going to be someone popping up saying "It's a bad heat treat" , and somewhere they throw in a "nuff said".

Another one is the types who go on and on about a heat treat a company uses being the best ever without knowing anything about how the company is heat treating the knife or what makes it different or special. People who just repeat slogans and marketing info as facts are sort of funny, but sort of sad too.

What makes me laugh is when someone cares so much about what others care about. Or how others do something or what they enjoy. If it doesn't affect me I don't care what you like, do, or have an opinion on.

If you don't care what someone else thinks, what are you doing in a forum?
