What are people;s opinions of CRKT knives? nt

Christopher,
Maybe I'll say nothing new in this thread but I would like to express my opinion in somewhat more friendly for CRKT form than just "good knives to cut gritty carpet" or "good starting level". My experience with CRKT knives is only a small bit "younger" that CRKT Knife Company. My first their knife was now discontinued Commander Doolittle. The only complaint about this knife is pretty soft steel, I guess it is some kind of 420 but later they turned to AUS-6 in this model.

Now CRKT makes extremely wide range of models and designs from well-known knifemakers. Among their knives you can find the models what could cover all normal man's needs, starting from heavy duty knives up to Jim Hammond sweet gentleman's folders like Mirage Titanium or Contrail.

Their prices are affordable, you don't need to save for the months to get their knife. The price is also not qualified to commit suicide of despair if you will lose or break their knife (this is possible with each knife). Since their knives maybe do not display enough high level to collect and to admire them in fact the display more than enough high level to use them.

Well, now some words about their quality. Just my humble opinion, but I never compare the knife quality with some ideas how high it could be. For me it is enough to have the level of quality suitable for knife safe, efficient and comfortable use. I have a lot of CRKT knives, some designs I like more, others I do like less.

But no one of them displays execution quality level I couldn't completely rely on!

Well, I'm only very familiar with two CRKT knives so far (a Mirage I bought for my brother-in-law and the BladeLOCK I got for Christmas) and I like what they have to offer.
For one-hand work folders the only maker I like more is Spyderco.

If you want a beginner's knife or an old beater-knife buy a Buck, Camillus, or Schrade.

Good luck,
Allen.

CRKT= excellent entry level knives imho, the kasper std and pro is hard to beat, the companion is great but get another sheath, they are ok, BUT BM, spydie, MT and many others outshine them, and sometimes for just a little bit more $$.....

Well, the only CRK&T knife I have is the P.E.C.K I bought last night for 15$ on clearance at Gart Sports.

I didn't need it, but this thing has to be a a 13 on the 1-10 geeky cool stuff scale. :D If the rest of the line is of the same quality construction, I may have to check out some of their other offerings.

It's really small, but it is fun to play with!

i have a few CRKT knives. The latest, is an S2. This had retailed for $199...I got it for 29.99...! ATA-34 steel, titanium handle, and a frame lock...this is a cool knife. Also love the Mirage and Apache. Good Luck! rdogout

I know this is an old thread, but it got my interest because of a CRKT I recently acquired. An S-2 titanim handle, framelock...with ATS-34 blade. This knife compares very favorably with my Benchmade 330 Mel Pardue. And it was way less expensive.

Anyway, I liked it so much, I went back on Ebay and found another one...called a "Contrail"...weighs 1.1 oz and is a little beauty. They call the blade steel Z60CDV14, whatever that is..anyway, it is very sharp..haven't had it long enough to know how long it holds an edge. If anyone has ever heard of this stuff, drop me a line.

These Columbia River guys seem to know what they're doing. IMHO the workmanship is excellent...like what you would usually expect from high end production folders. Just about the best "value" around..I think :)

I like the fact the CRKT uses BIG torx head screws for their scales. I'm tired of stripping out the tiny screws on knives that cost 3 and 4 times as much.

I have owned many different CRKT's and have not had a problem with any of em'. The only complaint was the steel, but who cares. I am able to sharpen my knives daily, and the soft steel makes for a easy and quick sharpening session. I have had both size point guards, both size KFF's and a Pro, a Carson F-4, a CF M-16, and a Aluminum spear point M-16. All were great for the price. I ended up trading them, but will probably get more. Oh yeah, they make great gifts too. My Dad gets one for his B-day and X-mass each year. (STOP losing them POP)! I would like to see a Ryan model 7 in ATS-34 w/ G-10 handles, and a matching plan B. (O.k., so it's nice to dream.:D)

I own folding knives made from almost all the big name manufacturers. The CRKTs folders that I own are equal and many times better than the other manufacturers. CRKT gives you a designer knife at a bargin price.

Own several of the stiff kiss series & the bearclaw good quality for the cost. Not the best metal available in some of the models, but again were not talking top end either. Agree with most here good all around beaters.

I dare to say they're are price/quality ratio killers.
I have a few CRKTs (maybe I should say I can only afford CRKTs with my student loans :p ), M16 small Tanto, Crawford Kasper (reg, 3") and the F4, and I love them.
So far my only complain was my C/K where the torx on the clip loosens, I've already fired off an e-mail and they're looking into it.
I'm not a fan of torx though.
the M16 is great, I wish I can lay my hands on the M18, but that's probably until I have a job or another loan.
The usual complaints from others are about the steel, but I'm happy with it. I've seen cases where the steel may seem cheap but the edge is razor sharp (ie Kershaw Scallion).
If you're the kind who's afraid of breaking your custom piece, or just need extra knives, CRKT makes some great stuff.

I think you will find that for the money CRKT make some pretty darn fine knives. I have owned an M-16 and played with lot's of other CRKTs. Darn good value.

I love a nice high dollar buttery good knife as the next guy, believe
me if I could afford to stack Benchmades, Emersons, Microtechs, I would, and have a few expense folders. CRKT granted has a few qualitity issues, but they make a great knife for the buck, I think if they would just tighten up their qualitity control, they would
be stealing a big chunk of the market. I got the chance to play with
the new RYAN Plan B fixed blade, and let me tell you, it is a nice little fixed blade, and it sells for around 30 bucks. There are better
knives on the market, but I think you would be hard pressed to find
a better "bang for your buck".
Just my little biased, unimportant opinion, but they all count!

Cyclone, quality control on my CRKTs is great. In fact better than some of my other higher priced folders from other manufacturers.

My Crawford Kasper opens smoother than all of my other folders from other manufacturers.

My only gripe is the bead blast finish which promotes rust. I've seen my friend's rust spotted spearpoint m-16.

In general great bang and high quality for the buck.
I like 'em esp the M-16.

while we are on the sudject which do you guys think is the best CRKT knife? something in the vein of a 3" folder.

The best CRKT folder: The Bladelock.
Second best: The Mirage.

Just my opinion,
Allen.

I'd only say the C/K series (std or pro). It's slick as hell.
I haven't tried th M18 and i suspect that it's better.
These Carson collaborations makes me want to buy some customs... too bad I have no money
