What are people;s opinions of CRKT knives? nt

I was so impressed with the CRKT Apache when it came out, I paid almost retail for one (doh!)

After re-shaping a spacer so it didn't hit the blade and adjusting and readjusting the pivot, I couldn't get the opening at all smooth. I have since found that the forward spacer cannot be tightened without crimping the pivot pin, hindering the opening severely.

It's a wonderful design, and I'd love to use it-unfortunately, it's flawed construction has made it impossible to even carry. (And of course, I bought it on a trip, so the dealer is unreachable..)

I've since stuck to B/M, M/T and Kershaw with good results. Even my recent Timberline Discovery at least WORKS...

I have bought nine CRKT knives, my favorite has been the Crawford/Kasper small version. I have just started to carry the new Crawford Falcon large size. It is smooth and slick. JB

CRKT's are the best bang-for-the-buck out there period. My favorite small edc is my S-2, rock solid build and excellent blade.
Another thing with CRKT's is the huge range of styles. CRKT's are always being discontinued and some really stellar deals can be had.
I paid 25$ each for my S-2's(2 small, 1 large) and my Black ApacheIII !!!!!!!!!!!

I own a couple of m16's and they have been great, the
only negative thing i have found is that the bead
blast finish on their blades will spot up, and some
of their liner locks are not very strong.

I first became a fan when they were a "younger" company too. I really liked the Commander line and the Mirage line too. Now, unfortunately, they bead blast almost everything so I don't buy them much anymore. If they would polish or satin finish their blades I'd buy more CRKT knives.

Christopher,
Maybe I'll say nothing new in this thread but I would like to express my opinion in somewhat more friendly for CRKT form than just "good knives to cut gritty carpet" or "good starting level". My experience with CRKT knives is only a small bit "younger" that CRKT Knife Company. My first their knife was now discontinued Commander Doolittle.

Overall, CRKT make great knives.

I had a Stiff Kiss which I sold (didn't like it at all), and have a zytel Mirage model which I treat as a "beater". I have been very impressed with the large Point Guard and M16 and even more impressed by a Commander my friend bought for his brother.

However, I recently aquired a CK Professional and consider it the best all round folder I own. I actually rate it above my Microtech, REKAT and Spyderco knives due mainly to it's outstanding ergonomic form, blade shape and incredible action. Those teflon washers really do something for me! :p

It seems to me that CRKT have also been market leaders spearheading the custom/production wave which must have resulted in more relatively high level knives in the hands of more people - in short, the creation of more knife knuts! Something to celebrate, surely.

I had the small serrated Apache, and loved it. A friend bugged me long enough I gave it to him. Not before (of course!) I replaced it with a small S-2, whose blade (+clip and hardware)I sent to Bodycote for BC coating.

It's a great little knife, made even better for the fact that I only spent about $35 for it.

I carry my carbon fibre M-16 and large M-18 a lot. The quality is very good on both, with a nice tight lockup. As with any bead blasted blade, I started with a good Tuf Cloth treatment and re-apply every few months or after corrosive applications. I haven't had problems with "leopard spots". It is cheaper to bead blast a surface as opposed to satin finishing it, which is how I suspect that CRKT keeps the price point low. Still and all, I really like both knives.

ive been a lurker for a few months now but i registered especially to reply to this thread, I had £100 and I wanted a knife I could use every day so I searched the forum and the one knife that seemed to stand ou the best was the CRKT C/K professional model so I got that (thanks for the reviews guys they helped alot) I can only sing praise for this knife. At first I wasnt sure about it, I didnt know if to keep it or send it back and swap it, there was a nice carbon fibre klotzli for a few pounds over my budget but in the end I kept the CRKT and it grew on me, the teflon bearings made it super smooth to open, the LARKS thing made it very secure, the handle design is excellent, giving a very secure grip stopping your hand sliding onto the blade and overall the knife is very solidly built. The blade is amazingly sharp out of the box, I shaved the back of my hand with it in 4 strokes! Anyway, there are enough reviews of this knife around, im just vouching for them and this is the only CRKT knife i have but I can say its excellent, im pleased with it for the money, even if it was a bit more than it would cost you in america. An excellent buy. Just one unrelated thing, I have a knife ive had for about 6 or 7 yrs now, its a folder with about 3.25 inch blade, a thumb stud blade lock with a drop point solingen blade with an engraving that reads 'ME traveller, solingen stainless, west germany' does anyone know anything about this comapny/knife as I cant find anything on the web anywhere.

I HAVE A 4" FIXED BLADE FROM THAT COMPANY.VERY AND STURDY STEEL.THE SHEATH IS BEUTIFUL ALSO WITH A DEER ON IT.I'VE USED FOR EVRYTHING.EVEN FILLETED FISH WITH, WITH NO DISCOLERING TO THE BLADE.HOLD ON TO IT. FRANK....

I just checked out the m18 at a local shop, that LAWKS lock system is pretty ingenious, may have to start saving for one:)
